But isnt that what FIFA used to be? The pick it up, welly it and score type?

Yeh, and the PES fanboys all claimed it wasn't realistic enough. Now all of a sudden realism doesn't count.
Never in all my years of playing PES have I claimed it to be realistic. Fun yes but not realistic I think it was just that Fifa was so bad back around the early 90's that PES fans used realism as a plus point (which back then was true). I just wish it had been developed instead of them sitting around doing nothing each year. Like I said I could write a book on it's foibles. I just hope Fifa is fun now instead of the dreary slog it was in 2009 and before. I will swap if it's adressed it's problems of pointless over-complication.

PES is as realistic as a football game can be, the developers are light years ahead of the drones at EA Sports.

I think you're delusional Kiam my mate. PES is an arcade game despite what the early advertising campaigns may state. It's not realistic and that's great, it's a game. Fifa is more realistic and I'm not getting into silly arguements about graphics and animations which is a very subjective thing. Fifa has more complicated controls of every aspect of play which gets in the way of fun. That's it's only fault. Otherwise it's a very impressive looking game these days. It didn't used to be. It used to look dreadful and PES was streets ahead graphically. Now it's horses for courses.

Kiam i was wondering, can you give me a breakdown on the realism of PES? What is it about the game that makes it realistic because from my experience of PES09 i came across....

Defenders unwilling to take the ball off me no matter how close i got to them. For example you can run side by side with them without shielding the ball and it's just pot luck that dictates whether or not they will attempt to get the ball off you. Or if you don't want to run side by side you can simply attempt to run into the defender with what seems like a 50% chance of the ball somehow going completely through him, allowing you a free run at goal. Realism is that.

Or how about the players manipulate the ball at their feet. Like how it seems attached by elesatic. This is really impressive when you want to change direction as the 8 point turning system perfectly mimics real life.

And if you can't handle all that realism, just wait until you shoot. The way the keeper realistically dives backwards and fumbles every shot regardless of pace or accuracy is a joy to behold. As Karl Pilkington would probably say.... The game was that realistic it left me breathless with muddy knees.

I was always PES until 09, when it lost the plot bigtime.

Thats a myth, PES 2009 is the best football game I have ever played. When I first bought it I thought it was garbage and PES had lost the plot but after a few weeks it became clear just how good it was. Graphically and in terms of gameplay it is in another league to any Fifa, the only thing lacking were stadiums, kits etc but that will always be the case with EA's massive budget.

This abuse PES 2009 is totally unjustified. PES 2008 I will give you, this was the first edition on PS3 and even I will admit it was very poor but give me the choice of that and any Fifa I would still find it difficult to take the Fifa as it is just a muddled mess of graphical inperfections and unrealistic gameplay more suited to a 90's Sega megadrive.

It's not a myth. It's his opinion (which happens to be shared by lots of hardcore PES fans - myself included)

I don't get what's worse in PES 2009 compared to say PES 6 or 4. To me it's the same game exactly and that's the problem. They never address the problems that were there way back on PES 2 (I also played PES on the original PS1 but I'm damned if I could ever successfully recall its quality today as I've not played it for years). I still have PES 2 and all subsequent games up to 2009 and I'm damned if I can spot the difference between them except a few minor tweeks here or there. The computer still has a tiny amount too much control over the player you're supposed to be controlling (I accept a bit of help but it's like someone sitting on my shoulder pressing buttons for me sometimes). Why the hell is there always one defender back playing the opposition's striker onside even if you've altered the settings to actively play the offside trap? Why does the striker blindly run forward when you put a through ball in instead of cutting across to intercept the pass? I could go on but I won't.

PES is better than Fifa, have I said that?

Several times.

Why do you feel the need to keep posting your opinion? Do you think that if you say it enough times it will become true (or look slightly less rediculous)?

I don't look rediculous, what ever that means.

If you offer a kid Mcdonalds or a meal in a three star Michelin restaurant they will choose Mcdonalds, this does not mean it is better it just means they are influenced by the advertising and pretty packaging. It is the same with Fifa and PES, you either go for the lesser known quality or the widely known cheap tat.
