Nothing is new. Back in the 1960s, if City were playing away at the likes of Preston, Burnley, Blackburn, etc., the supporters bus would often head for Blackpool for a night out after the match. The problem was that other teams playing there or at Bolton, Bury, etc. would have the same idea.
Having up to four or five sets of rival supporters getting rat-arsed in Blackpool on a Saturday night was a recipe for fights and scuffles.
One night a piss head City supporter came up to us and demanded we join him to attack a bunch of Wolves fans up the road. I told him I wasn’t going to get involved. He went ballistic and tried to lay into me. The others pulled him off and we moved away from the scene.
By all accounts he was still looking for me months afterwards. However he was drunk at the time and hadn’t a clue who I was.
