in defence of 2001 a space odyssey , at the time the special effects where ground breaking . 40 years on and its still a visually exceptional film
as for the story , the film doesnt really do justice to arthur c clarkes book , i think its one of those where you have to read the book to truly appreciate the film

As to the OP's question:

There will be Blood - hugely overrated although Day Lewis was as strong as ever.
The Departed - Scorcese got the Oscar as a nod to his previous work, far from his strongest movie
The Matrix trilogy - utter crap
Raging Bull- De Niro put on a load of weight and the fight scenes are good, that's it.

Could go on all day.

Scarface? To be fair you thought Christian Bale was good in "The Fighter", a film so poor I almost forgot I had even seen it.
