Films that were acclaimed that are actually rubbish

Isn't that because the first Star Wars was something like book 6 in a thirteen book story .... so it was never really recoverable after that.

I'm not sure what you mean by 'recoverable'. The story of the most recent 3 is all over the place, and changed several times - if anything, the lack of throughline is why they're a bit of a mess.

The second trilogy (the earliest in the timeline) are drenched in tat-selling placement and (to my mind) intrusively cluttered with crap CGI. To add to that, the main character can't act, and the story is not very good.

Any film that isnt historically accurate. I've no problem showing a story against a historical background but FFS dont change major historical facts...
Pearl Harbor - WTF.
Titanic - Many facts of the sinking are just wrong.
300 - Oh dear.
The Patriot - OMG
Braveheart - Oh fucking dear.
U-571 - possibly the worst movie reinagining of all time.
The Last Samurai - a nice movie but its historical bollox.

Even the otherwise excellent Sound of Music fails to some degree. They went home and simply crossed the railway line outside their house and walked into Italy. If they'd crossed the Alps they'd have gone into Germany.

Don't have an enormous problem with artistic license as long as it isn't badged as historically accurate - like no-one watches a Tarantino looking for true to life events (I hope).

But you were alright with the sound of music? :-)
