Police Academy is a great answer, I used to love them as a kid but couldn’t bring myself to watch one now

@City Hobgoblin, like you, I detest Tom Cruise, and have very little time for any of his films, but give him a chance in Magnolia. He brings something to his performance that you almost never see (although it could be argued that he's playing himself, I suppose). I had somewhat more respect for him after seeing that. But then, it's a Paul Thomas Anderson film, and he is arguably the most interesting filmmaker currently working in Hollywood, and has been for quite some time.
Also, if you want a really good laugh at his expense, watch the Wired Autocomplete interview with Cruise (on Youtube), and then read the comments underneath. Usually, Youtube comments are junk, just trolling, ignorance and suchlike, but those ones take the piss mercilessly and relentlessly. People get on a roll, and it just gets funnier and funnier.
On another point: when have you seen a remake that is genuinely better than the original? It's pretty hard, isn't it? I can think of Scorsese's Cape Fear (I've got both on DVD: that is, the original as well with Robert Mitchum and Gregory Peck) and then, frankly, I'm struggling.

Interestingly, I note from some of the replies above that there's no middle ground with David Lynch. Some people detest him, others think he's brilliant. That's a healthy thing, I believe.
I also note that almost nobody seems to watch the classics of movie history. Anything older than forty years or so just doesn't seem to figure (film's been going for more than a hundred years, if you include the silent period). And virtually nobody is prepared to pay to watch a film in black and white, however good it is (starting with my son, who is adamant about it). That rules out Citizen Kane and The Magnificent Ambersons. It also rules out Manhattan. And Elephant Man.

1.- first film you remember watching

Cinema I think it was Flash Gordon
    Video - The Warriors
TV - it will have been a Tarzan film, Laurel and Hardy or Norman Wisdom film.

3 - scariest film - as a kid I found Halloween and Nightmare on Elm Street scary.

    3 - funniest film - Airplane/Hangover/Meet the Parents

4 - film you used to like but don’t anymore -

    Big

5 - a film people don’t like but you love, or one you love that people don’t necessarily know -

The English Patient. I think it’s a great film but no one I knew did.

6 - a film most people like but you don’t

Beaches - Hate soppy films. Wife loves em.

    7 - worst film

Intolerable Cruelty - wife dragged me to the cinema to watch this pile of shite.

8 - a film that means something special to you e.g one you remember watching with your dad, a first date or something like that. Feel free to explain your answer!

    The Perfect Storm

9 - film/character you relate to the most (e.g Jimmy Grimble!)

    Pass

10 - sexiest film (I’ll take sexiest scene)

I found Close my Eyes with Clive Owen and Saskia Reeves pretty hot. Slightly concerning with the incest plot it revolves around.

11 - Sub category of the above - troubling boner, worrying wide ons (his words not mine!). Somebody/something in a film you find sexy but probably shouldn’t.

Demi Moore in Blame it on Rio. Age wise she was playing someone fairly young from memory but I was only about 16 at the time !

12 - objectively the best film of all time. Not necessarily your favourite but if you had to explain what “film” was to someone which film would you show them.

    Schindlers List.

13 - film that made you cry the most

I don’t cry much but did cry at The Green Mike. I seem to remember Toy Story 3 bringing a tear to my eye too which I later read was the intention of the writer!

As a child, a Norman Wisdom film broke my heart when his horse died.

    14 - film you’ve watched the most

Toss up between Saving Private Ryan, Rambo First Blood and Home Alone 1/2.

    15 - favourite film

    Private Ryan/Home Alone

16 - the film you’d take to the afterlife with you and show on your “movie night” to everyone. Doesn’t have to be your favourite but can be!

    Home Alone

Off topic but I doubt I've watched 16 films in my entire 49 years. Don't see the attraction at all.

    As you were

1 - first film you remember watching - Sink The Bismarck - I was ill off school when I was about 6 and this was the matinee film on about 2p.m.
2 - scariest film - No idea of title but it was when I was about 7 years old and it was some kind of hammer horror and from nowhere this werewolf appeared at the bedroom window and I absolutely shit my pants. When I was about 12 a film called Wolfen, those red eyes watching from the stairs really shit me up.
    3 - funniest film - Airplane
4 - film you used to like but don’t anymore - The Wizard Of Oz
5 - a film people don’t like but you love, or one you love that people don’t necessarily know - Predestination ( I Like any time travel movies)
    6 - a film most people like but you don’t - Titanic
7 - worst film - One I think was called Jade, only because my girlfriend took me to see Leon and she fucked up the tickets and we ended up watching this shite instead,
8 - a film that means something special to you e.g one you remember watching with your dad, a first date or something like that. Feel free to explain your answer! - Unforgiven
9 - film/character you relate to the most (e.g Jimmy Grimble!) - Patrick Bateman :)
10 - sexiest film (I’ll take sexiest scene) - Cinderella (It was actually a porn tape that was doing the rounds at Uni. until I acidentally lost it! I took it home with me and must have wanked my way through it a dozen times)
11 - sub category of the above - troubling boner, worrying wide ons (his words not mine!). Somebody/something in a film you find sexy but probably shouldn’t. - The above one.
12 - objectively the best film of all time. Not necessarily your favourite but if you had to explain what “film” was to someone which film would you show them. - On The Waterfront.
13 - film that made you cry the most - The Cinderella porn tape when my video recorder chewed it up.
14 - film you’ve watched the most - Triangle ( Just to understand how all the bits fitted together. ) I don't usually watch films more than twice. I must have seen Grease about 50 times only because my sister went through about 2-3 years of watching a copy of it every other week.
15 - favourite film - Any decent war film or time-travel movie.
16 - the film you’d take to the afterlife with you and show on your “movie night” to everyone. Doesn’t have to be your favourite but can be! - Duel
