First Trip To Manchester

I have seen the Muffin or Barm thread and it's hilarious. Never heard of a Barm before though here in Canada.
Tell me about it! When I’m in Vancouver I never get your ‘barms’ because they are hard on the top like what I call bread rolls! Mind you I like Tim Horton’s food just been to their drive thru at Trafford Centre for a Canadian Maple doughnut and hot choc with added cream!

The Castle on Oldham St is worthy of a visit if there's music on as is The White Lion just over the Irwell.

Piccadilly Gardens - it's full of beautiful artisan street traders and it's a lovely place to hang out during the day and have a picnic in the Manchester sunshine.

Ask around some of the traders if you can buy some 'spice'. It's a local delicacy, a beautiful aromatic herb that goes with all kinds of different dishes. Make sure you take some home in your suitcase for your friends and family.
and whilst there you can get some lovely gifts for the family back home from the many lookie lookie men, and women

I'll be in Manchester that week staying at my partner's flat literally across the road from the Museum of Science of Industry in Castlefield.
If you need someone to go for a pint with, or a couple of tourist guides, let me know.
We're both early retirees so have loads of time on our hands so more than happy to show you the sights.
That's a great way of saying " We're fucking loaded and we're fucking bored " ;)

Definitely book a guided tour of Chetham's Library. Took some American visitors there recently and they loved it. A lot of stuff at the Science & Industry Museum was closed, including the first railway station and the Air & Space Hall.

The Football Museum is across the road from Chetham's and well worth a visit.

Do the Etihad Stadium tour then wander back into Manchester via the canal tow-path and the marina, into Ancoats stopping for a pint and food in Cutting Room Square.

I was just in Manchester (first time in 17 years) for the Newcastle match. I found it a pretty vibrant place BTW. More so than the last time I was there. (Maybe it's because Pearce was the manager then...shudder; and it coloured my impressions of the place.) Anyhow, as others have said, take the stadium tour. And the Football Museum is worth a look too. Plus all the other good advice on here from the folks who know it best.

I really liked looking at the older buildings too like the Midland Hotel and the Manchester Library while strolling around.

And if you have time and enjoy Asian food, take the bus out to Rusholme and walk the Curry Mile...my arse was twitching for a couple of days after that. :)
