1 title in 5 years?
Yup that's all we've won. Bellend.
Begiristain wasn't appointed until October 2012.

The poster is right in his suggestion that had we "kicked on" and bought 3 world class players in the summer of 2012, we would have dominated English football for the next 3 years and Slurgie would have had to retire firmly put in his place with no final league title.
From good info I heard at the time, we had deals for Van Persie and Hazard in place, they were ours to lose, and we lost them. De Rossi was clearly more difficult to get over the line. But if we had added those 3, we'd have dominated English football without any question whatsoever. We should have bought Van Persie, if only to keep him out of the reaches of our closest rivals, like Milan used to do. He ended up going there and winning them the league.
Hazard's father may well have made an "unreasonable demand" but I tell you what, I bet Chelsea don't regret paying it. He was the most in demand player in Europe that summer, with a bidding war from all the biggest clubs in England trying to get him, no wonder they used that to their advantage. I bet you Chelsea don't regret paying a penny of it.
Even if we couldn't have got those 3, we should have gone for 3 world class players that would improve our starting 11 straight away. Pushed us on to another level. All summer Mancini said "ask Bryan" about transfers, because they were being handled by Marwood. No wonder Mancini was fuming, here was a guy who had identified and brought in Silva, Yaya and Aguero - our three best players of the modern era, and he was having his authority undermined by an embarrassing David Brent-style executive who was a journeyman footballer with no experience in recruitment who was bringing him Adam fucking Johnson, Scott fucking Sinclair, and Javi fucking Garcia.
No wonder Mancini was pissed off!
I remember Marwood at the time saying "we can't just buy the best players every summer" I actually remember those words coming out of his mouth. So instead we bought a load of bog fucking average that took us backwards, while our biggest rivals bought the best player in the league! Genius!
We went backwards at an alarming rate in 2012-13, when that was the time to have kicked on. Fergurson always said the best time to buy is when you've won the league, strengthen while you're already the strongest, it's deflating for your rivals. And instead, both times we've won the league we've managed to take a huge backwards step.
Without question the executives running the club in 2012 thought Mancini has too much power and wanted to undermine him. They wanted him to fit in to their new structure and were taking away his responsibilities for recruitment. Essentially they were demoting him from being a manager to being a head coach after he had just won the league. It was a big mistake. I understand Sorriano wanted to create a new structure at the club, wanted to lay the groundwork for Pep. I totally understand the idea behind it - to keep consistency in recruitment so we can seemlessly go from one manager to the next, but the thing is, it's not worked.
We've bought Fernando, Mangala, Delph, Sagna, Bony and Caballero under Pellegrini's reign, and Guardiola is going to bomb them all out within 12 months of his arrival! In terms of continuity planning, the recruitment has been an absolute fucking joke! The only continuity signings that have worked have been De Bruyne and Sterling, and Sterling didn't fit in to Pellegrini's team whatsoever - was awful and didn't get in the team! So one signing - DeBruyne, has worked for both Pellegrini and Guardiola. The rest are going to be sold on at a huge loss. What a great advert for the DoF model.
For all the criticism of Mancini for being abrasive, petulent, whatever, no one can argue with his record of recruiting players at City. No wonder he felt undermined, I don't blame him for offering to resign. You're going to take away the responsibility for recruitment from the guy who bought Silva, Yaya and Aguero and give it to a guy that identified Adam Johnson and Scott Sinclair? Do me a favour.
And Mark Hughess' buys were excellent as well.Begiristain wasn't appointed until October 2012.

Which usually gets forgotten when people are telling the Sheikh how much he should have spent when we were carrying huge losses into FFP.Any consideration for wages or the impending FFP rules in this masterplan mate?
Good post but I'd quibble with some of it.Begiristain wasn't appointed until October 2012.

Assuming we do not win this year it will be 1 title United city Chelsea Leicester and this year's winners No FA cup in this period
We finally won the league and then what happened.
2012/13 Mancini wanted de Rossi, Van Persie to press on but instead we got Garcia, Rodwell and Sinclair. The reason he didn’t get what he wanted is that the club had already decided to get rid of him. Fair enough, as while he seemed a perfect fit for City, Roberto has since done doodly squat which sort of suggests his limitations.
2013/14 So who to get to take us on into this brand new Txiki world. Pellegrini? Not a bad CV but not one of the elite managers. So why hire him? Well even at this stage he was keeping the seat warm for you know who and due to his style of play it was likely to eventually be a smooth transition. It worked. The players many of whom were still at their peak, unlike now, got that change of manager buzz and were in reality too good not too win the league, although it took some scouse wobbling this time to get us over the line. Throw in the LC, a pretty decent effort by players and the manager.
2014/15 Just like the previous post title season mysteriously we didn’t kick on. More poor purchases. Mangala and Fernando. What was Txiki thinking? Were these players Pellegrini wanted? They certainly weren’t Pep’s recommendations. And a pretty turgid season it was with embarrassing cup defeats.
2015/16 At last some intent in the transfer market. 3 years too late some might say. But Sterling and de Bruyne are class. Finally money is spent with the arrival of the messiah in sight. However the manager was beginning to run out of ideas and Pep’s shadow didn’t help resulting in our lowest league position since 2010/11.
2016/17 Some more mega signings and Pep to boot. But by this stage the total dereliction of duty by Txiki is beginning to become terminal. The 100 million plus spent on average CBs is coming home to roost as is the bewildering lack of attention to the ageing fullback situation. This all leaves the world’s best manager in a difficult position. Does he revert to a more Mancini like approach sure up the back and let the star forwards get on with it? Nah. He decides to play as if he still had Barca’s and Bayern’s fullbacks leading to the inevitable defensive cock ups.
From a position where we were league champions, and other clubs seemed to be in decline, we have somehow managed to win 1 title in 5 years.
You could not be more wrong on this and I'll tell you why.
Just after we won the title in 2012, Mancini handed in his notice as he didn't want to work under Begiristain. Had we accepted it, as we should have done, we could have had Guardiola then but the board spent weeks trying to persuade him to stay despite the fact they knew there were likely to be significant problems between him & Begiristain. I think they were worried about bad PR in the wake of the Hughes sacking but it ended up worse because of their lack of resolve. So by the time we'd sorted it out (Mancini didn't sign a new contract till July) we'd left it too late to do any decent business.
Yes he wanted De Rossi, van Persie & Hazard but De Rossi made it clear he wouldn't leave Roma so there was nothing anyone could do about that. To get van Persie, he was told he'd have to sell Dzeko or Balotelli. We got a decent offer for Mario from PSG but he wouldn't sell him so we lost RVP. Hazard we were close to signing but his father made an unreasonable & unforeseen financial demand at the last minute and the club wouldn't meet it.
But no doubt you'll carry on repeating this pile of shite that bears no relation to reality ad nauseam.
It was something like that. I understand the club have a policy on what and who they'll pay which I guess is a good thing in some ways but you do wonder if it was the right thing in the circumstances.I might be wrong but I'm told Hazard father was acting as his agent and wanted around 5m? The club were probably right at the time but now it looks like a right fuck up.
