Flooding - again !

Are you seriously suggesting that we level the Pennines ?
Do you actually understand how the Pennines affect the weather in the north of England ?
I've lived in their shadow all my life and I'm pretty much fucking waterproof now.
No it was you that suggested it.
Keep up.

Just like every other social/economic/environmental problem that this country (in fact the whole world) has it comes down to one simple thing... too many people.

In the case of UK flooding if there weren't more and more houses being built on what were previously floodplains, combined with downstream flood defences causing bigger floods further back up stream then there wouldn't be such an issue with flooding effecting so many people.

Maybe if we levelled the Pennines and sold the rubble to another country , we wouldn't have this problem.
What would you suggest we do to stop the rain in northern England ?
It's been raining here for thousands and thousands of years and it'll still be raining here long after us lot pop our clogs.

As some on here know I spend quite a bit of time in New Zealand; they don't call the area 'the roaring 40s' for nothing. Property is regularly flooded. I find it amusing listening to the property owners when interviewed on TV the common statements are 'there's nothing you can do about it, it is nature after all'.

I don't know what people expect. The water has to go somewhere. Are we expected to dig huge drainage channels? We do not help ourselves building on flood plains. As our population increases so the problems will multiply. Building flood proof houses may help but it will still flood.

There is no answer. It is nature and we will have learn to live with it. Doesn't help when governments cut budgets that help those affected.

2000, 07,09,12,13,16 and now 2019 with Northern counties suffering the most. Beyond a fucking joke. Flood defence spending is allocated on number of people who benefit most so the Thames side properties have gazillions spent near them in Fishlake you have to learn to mount the telly on the wall and replace the carpets with rubber mats.
Sounds a right pain. The clue is in the name though.

The Pennines are doing the best job at keeping all that fucking water in Yorkshire - sorry Kyle, sorry Stonesy - but they are the best dam nature has built!
