Florian Wirtz

Pretty sure Bayer Pharmaceuticals' €50bn market cap won't be moved by the transfer dealings of the football club.

For reference purposes, a potential €100m deal for Wirtz is less than one day's revenue for Bayer AG.
The point is, market cap is moved by financial reports. They are noting huge extraordinary expenses, cash reserves have fallen, and the outlook for sales isn't great. Carefully scoring 100m by realising an asset or two from non-core business is serious stuff.

Have a read of the 23h1 interim statement and tell me these guys aren't under pressure;

Core earnings per share at €1.22
(– 36.8%)
// Net income at minus €1.9 billion,
weighed down by impairment losses
of €2.3 billion
// Free cash flow at minus €0.5 billion
// Group outlook for 2023 lowered

Why are people so sure we have no chance to get him this summer? Maybe there's something I'm missing. If we were willing to pay 80M for Paqueta and 90M for Rice then we can and should pay 100M for a tremendous talent like Wirtz. Besides, why don't we offer them McAtee in exchange for a loan? It's a win-win situation for all parties. I would even send Oscar Bobb there to get minutes.

Because there is more to transfers than just slapping a figure down.

100M in anyone's books is not to be sniffed at.

A deal will be done if we are willing to pay the price.

would be looking at 100m euros this late in the window imo, still would be worth it long term though as he is genuinely going to be world class!

Apparently Witz doesn't want to move before next summer's Euro's, as he doesn't want anything to hinder his place in the Germany squad.

If true. I suppose that's that for 12 months...
On the other hand, in the absence of Kev, he would probably start most games. I don't think we would pay 100m euros and bench him. I think he would get a very good amount of games. I do understand his logic, though. He had some serious injury problems last season, so it makes sense for him to stay put for now.

This is the selling point they would have to nail. Look we were coming for you in 2024, we have a Kev sized hole in the team waiting for you a year early

If we really want him and that fee they want of €100m we will pay it
Irrelevant what we want if Tolmie is correct and the lad isn't leaving.

Lets be honest, this is all setup for Wirtz to have a stormer of a tournament next summer in his own backyard and then join Bayern as is the usual pattern for all talent in Germany.

Kev will be back for 2024 & will be looking to cement his place in the Belgium squad. What the fuck for at his age & with his injury record, I've no idea, but if Wirtz prizes Euro 2024 above City right now, there's little we can do about it.

I'd see things differently if it were me, especially because I'd have to step up my game because of the increased competition in the PL & CL... But I'm a City fan innit? \0/

Which takes me back to what I suggested a few weeks back. We buy him now, & leave him on loan at Leverkusen for a season, or even two as part of the deal...

I would rather sign him next summer when he is more open to move rather than risk buying him now and loaning him back and picking up a major injury.
