Florian Wirtz

I can definitely understand this argument, but we saw last season that Kev surely isn't gonna be able to cope with a full season, game after game, every few days. He could easily pick up an injury or two, and even if he doesn't, he's gonna need some careful game management from Pep to avoid the same kinda burnout we saw at stages of last season.

I think he'd benefit massively from having a young, similarly-skilled back-up to come in for the last half hour of games or start against some of the weaker sides to give him a rest. Yeah, Phil could fill that role too, but Pep hasn't shown huge willingness to play him there, and Alvarez hasn't quite looked like he can fill that role, either.

Bring in Wirtz now and suddenly we've got a young lad who not only gets a relatively comfortable year easing-in to the system and figuring things out in the Premier League without excessive pressure on his shoulders, but also gets to learn from the very best player in his position, along with the best manager, and would surely get plenty of game time, too. Makes a ton of sense all round, for me.

But, to be fair, can also see the benefit of him having another year in Germany, starting each week, honing his skills. Only problem is I'm sure he'll have another brilliant year under Alonso and be worth even more next summer, with a few more clubs after him too.

In an ideal world that would happen but I can't see us dropping 120m+ on a lad to join the De Bruyne internship program for a year when we have more pressing concerns with the squad.

Leverkusen know what they have and are a well run club with no immediate need to sell. I haven't checked how long his contract has to run but I would bet they are happy to refuse any offers until he has a couple of years left.

Honestly, I don't think this is an unrealistic signing this summer. Tolmie even hinted as much. We have some money (Rice bid), and I think a similar offer would get us this guy. Not only can he be our Mahrez replacement for now, but also he can slowly take over from Kev in the future. As your stats display, he is as close a player to Kev as we can get. His creativity is off the charts, and he is one of the most technically gifted young players on the planet. Versatile. Essentially, like Pep's wet dream.
Enjoy, everyone ;).

I don't think Wirz is realistic this season. There is no harm making plans for next summer if he is highly thought of at the club.

And also, lets be honest, KdB wont play all the games

Every time I read one of your posts I disagree with it. You post a lot. Has this always been the case for others too or is it just me?

Of course it's realistic if that lad wants to join city. We have the cash, the open role for him, Pep, etc. If we come knocking and throw a big bid on the table this is completely realistic. He also already had the injury so they might be more keen to move him on now rather than later.

Seems like a next summer singing to me, but it would be a good surprise if we get him this year.

It has to be this. Of course I’d love it but it’s probably too late for Leverkeusen to replace with any quality. They are hoping for a big year I don’t see where the fee would be to make it worth their risk

Bayer Leverkusen can easily turn our bid down. It still has to be convenient for the selling club too. We still had to negotiate with RB Leipzig for Gvardiol and we (or Leverkusen) don't have much time for that at this stage of the season. There is no reason to still talk to Wirtz's agent for next season and then make an attempt then.

If we wait he will either go to Bayern or someone like Chelsea...or his price will drasticaly go up....

KDB aint lasting for ever and his injuries are starting to catch up on him.....he wont be able to play 3 games a week without seriously increasing the risk of injuries....

Give them Palmer

Wirtz is a great talent but his injury history is a big concern. Better avoid another sick note like Philipps. (No disrespect...)

I’ve never seen Wirtz play but I‘d ask ,is he a better KDB replacement than Foden ?

yeah probably, very stylistically similar. Dont think Foden has Kev extended passing range. get one hitting from 25 yards and foden breaking into the box off the back of the striker and you have a hell of a pairing.
