Florian Wirtz

Latest quote on MGW is £70m, we'd do a deal for less than that if the valuation is true.

He's okay but it's not an area we are desperate in tbh. Fullbacks, a centre mid and a decision on a grealish/doku/savinho replacement.

Until we know whose going its hard to know who we need. Attacking fullbacks a must for me though

Call me delusional or whatever but I still think there's a chance we get him. He might stay another year and see his contract out but if Leverkusen want a fee for him then we're realistically the only club who can offer if it. Especially if they want McAtee then I think we could still do a deal with them.

City seem to have an excellent relationship with Leverkusen but clearly knew than Wirtz didn’t want City/wants Bayern.

Pep has an excellent relationship with Bayern, not sure about us at the top level ie. Txiki, Ferran, Viana.

Let them use Liverpool to get the price they want and keep a good relationship in order. The next star coming out of Leverkusen might want to come to City instead of Bayern and they want some players from us.

I think this is the issue we face. We miss out on Wirtz and there are very few realistic backup options who even remotely excite at the thought of them joining us. We will have to pay 100m + for MGW - get to fuck with that. Eze i've no idea really but he'd cost a hell of a lot as well. After that, world football and the PL is hardly overflowing with attacking talent.

For me if Wirtz is a no, we keep our money aside and go big strong on midfield and full backs. Who knows what will change in 12 months time.

I agree, we have Bobb and Echeverri who have limitless potential and hopefully Foden can get his level back, that's 3 potential stars we can gamble on to hopefully become world class. Mukasa behind them aswell. I'd rather strengthen the full back and central midfield positions first. Reijnders, Camara, Wharton would all be good signings. I'd just pay Cherkis release clause for the attack, well worth taking the chance on him for the reported release clause. His ceiling is really high.

Unlikely , if as it looks he wants Bayern, the only player who I can recall going in for after we withdrew was Laporte.
And that's kind of my thoughts and hopes. Pep allegedly really wants Wirtz and couple that with those comments he made the other day about squad size, I think he knows we need someone of Wirtz's standard rather than two players to do the job of one.

I'm again thinking/hoping that we can get the deals done for the other players and see where we are in the budget before going back to Leverkusen with an offer. I'm almost certain that Liverpool & Bayern can't afford what he apparently wants so I can't see them making a concrete bid any time soon

Liverpool this season are a decent example - probably 3 genuinely world class players in Salah, Van Dijk & Alisson, with lots of very good players elsewhere. Ran out of steam but a good team

But why are we trying to emulate a good but not great side? We've had 3 different sides over the last 10-12 years that are better than this current Liverpool side. Jeez our side last season was better than them. Why are we trying to suddenly trying to settle for less than we are used to? It seems bonkers to me that people are fine with us not signing world class players (we have the money, we have the manager and we currently still have the pull). Madness.

I don’t think that we are trying to settle for less, after all we were seriously after Wurtz by all accounts. I think saying that we will pay his huge fee, for some supposedly is the best available shows our commitment, unfortunately he didn’t want us. That doesn’t show a lack of ambition on our behalf…..who remembers Kaka?

We absolutely don’t! We need the opposite. I’d rather get 3 players for the price of 7 if they are world class
2 full backs
1 box to box
1 attacking midfielder
2 fullbacks
1-2 GKs

They all need to be starting XI level

If only we spent like the media think we does, i'd have this lad in with about 6 others and 9-10 leaving. :p

I was talking more about some of our fans who are saying we would be better signing 7 work horses over 3 world class players and that world class players don't necessarily make world class teams. And whilst there's some truth in the fact that a team full of galacticos don't mean trophies will always follow every great side has world class players. You can't have a great side without world class players!

I just don't think that's true.

For argument sake (I respect not all these players are available and realistic but to prove the point), which side would you prefer:

Ederson
Dumfries
Stones
Dias
Gvardiol
Rodri
Camavinga
Wirtz
Savinho
Foden
Haaland

Or

Costa
Wesley
Dias
Gvardiol
Cambiasso
Rodri
Gibbs-White
Foden
Savinho
Cherki
Haaland

I think we're likely to see variations of these 2 line-ups, and honestly. Quite happy with it.

I don’t think we’d win the league with that squad. And certainly not the CL. Hope I’m wrong and there’s of course huge potential in Marmoush (who I forgot about in my above post) and I’m still hopefully on Foden but still… I just don’t think there’s enough top quality there.

That's not what I said, they are a good example of a team that has 3 world class players with very good supporting players.

We rarely sign players who are world class superstars who are at the pinnacle in their position - more often we sign very good players, with tactical flexibility, who become world class under Pep. It's not about settling, it's understanding how we make squads.

The first one and savinho wouldn’t be in either. I’d still have Bernardo or Bobb in there.
