Food From Your Youth

My Mum was a terrible cook and in fairness she had to work and bring up two lads on her own, but she’d try and make every quick meal when we were kids including
Vesta packets, Findus Crispy pancakes and these

unfortunately she burnt most meals.

I always preferred Instant Whip to Angel Delight for some reaso.
I wasn’t a foodie back then!

Findus crispy pancakes seemed to be the ‘go to’ for Mams that weren’t great cooks, my girlfriend wretches at the thought of them because it’s all her Mam ever did, her face is a picture when I tell her what we had to eat and tell her she was an ungrateful little woman, and we’d have killed for just one !

Banana Angel Delight .. two packs placed into four sundai goblets before refrigerating to serve.
Rock/bun cake mix taken by the handful when mother wasnt looking.
Mothers home made egg custard
Banana butties (only with ripe bananas) on a sheldon T- cake they are beyond par excellent.
Banana longboat .. I cry when swallowing!
The old cheesecakes you used to make yourself out of a packet.
Daz drops
Ruffle bars
White mice
Liver mash and Bisto
Tinned Pears with carnation milk
Toad in the hole
Bangers and beans by heinz

Instant whips, artic rolls, Birds-eye crispy pancakes, Vesta chow meins. cheap tomato and cheese pizzas from the butchers, Heinz toast toppers, fry ups....kept us going in the mid to late 70s.

Anyone remember something called Haslet? It was a sliced cold meat, but what kind of meat i couldn't tell you as it didn't look like ham or beef or anything. I think it may have been sweepings of all different meats processed and pressed together. Another leftover from the war and rationing probably. It was fucking horrid.
Tesco in Warrington still sell it. Can't be much (any) meat in it judging by the price.
