Food From Your Youth

Tom's chippy, Chapman street Gorton
We used to get chips n gravy with "scratchings". These were left over crispy fish batter that had come off the fish.
Bulked the meal out a bit, and was great with lashing of salt and vinegar on the gravy.
Used to be free, but Tom the tight arse started charging for them!

Bet you were off your fucking nut.
Yup that was my summer holidays, I’d get dropped off at Grandas (17th floor of sky scraper in the morning), given a banana sandwich and a choc ice, sent out to play football in the 5 aside pitch downstairs. He’d watch me playing with the local lads from the window which looked down onto the pitch, I’d head back up for lunch which was normally a banana sandwich and either a lemonade slider or coke slider. Was brilliant fun, was also allowed to run up and down the stairs, yes I was off my nut, very hyperactive kid lol

Farex (a bit like ready-brek). Loved the stuff.

We also used to have fried egg and chips for tea. Just egg and chips! I haven't had or seen that meal in ages, In fact I think I'll see if the Missus can rustle it up for tea tonight :-)

Chips and egg was a regular in our gaff.

I used to make chip butties (white bread) then dip them in the yolk and a big blob of brown sauce.

Fucking quality.

Piece of piss to make yersel'...I used to make huge trays of the stuff when I worked at a local bakery.
In case you're interested-
Shortcrust pastry smeared with raspberry jam and cornflakes stirred into warm syrup then poured over the top of the pastry and flattened down then baked. Doddle...So are egg custard tarts.

Yep, I used to make it regularly. Heat the golden syrup up with some butter and then pour and mix the cornflakes.

I even used to buy the sweet shortcrust pie cases to avoid the extra mess.
