That's Villa fans getting a bit deluded, WBA are a bigger club than Wigan IMO.

Villa fans are not getting a bit deluded they have been deluded for decades!
They think they are the Bayern Munich of the midlands.
Pathetic really.

Villa are the Bayern Munich of the West Midlands. They won the European Cup in 82, something that City can only dream of so far.

Sheffield and Leeds are the real underperforming big cities when it comes to top flight football.
Leeds a big city.. My arse

I grew up in Manchester but now I live in the Midlands, outside of football there are a lot of aspects of Birmingham that are better than Manchester...

You're in the middle of the country, you could be in London or Manchester in 1hr 20 mins each way.
The music scene here if you try and look outside commercial music is fantastic with the B-town, heavy metal and reggae scene.
Very diverse city where you learn all sorts of different cultures.
Public access is best in the country, no doubt.

Footballing wise, obviously Villa are the biggest club but if you're going to count East Midlands, then Forest can be included in that too, Aston Villa and Birmingham City is THE derby in Birmingham no doubt about it and IMO is one of the most hostile in the country, a lot of Villa fans I know really don't consider West Brom (or the 'Tesco Bags') as a hated rival but West Brom hate Villa though, more of an annoyance like the shit that doesn't flush in Lehmann's terms, but they don't like Wolves (known as the Dingles or Dogfaces amongst Villa supporters) either as games between them are feisty affairs at times too, but of course, Wolves big rival is WBA in the Black Country derby, equally as heated as Birmingham/Villa, okay not much success on the pitch, but its a lot of fun with the banter that goes on, plus the Punjabi Wolves and Punjabi Villains always do good food before games and the multi-cultural intergration is tremendous, something a lot of London clubs could learn from.

Birmingham has more people in than Manchester and is geographically bigger - that is why its the 'Second City', it gets a bit of an unfair rep at times. Both cities have their good and bad areas.

Manchester is the best city to live in, in the UK.

OFFICIALLY

Only if you're loyal to the city, I'm not, mind you I'm not even loyal to my own country. LOL.

Birmingham is certainly a city that intrigues me. I reckon I could live there. Whenever I've met a Brummie on holiday, I've got on sound with them. I've never been to Birmingham apart from Villa away though.
Brummies are great it has to be said.
this sentence appalls me

Music scene?
you're having a laugh

a city living in the past, chavvy or student areas over take the city centre bars and eateries, there isn't a decent mix of ages on nights out and the place is fucking dead midweek

I was there for my daughters graduation last week (Birmingham) although she has been there 3 years and is now living down there, I have never stopped there, I was surprised like Manchester it's been rebuilt and redeveloped

The idea for this thread came from talking to some Villa fans, even they wonder why the Midlands compares badly compared to the other major regions in terms of football

I have only ever been out in Birmingham once and have to say I was sadly disappointed when I went into the 'Brass House' on Broad Street. Trading Standards should be all over that.
