Seems like it isn't going to happen. Not meaning to be insensitive but why are the Hillsborough Family Support Group so against safe standing? Don't get me wrong if I had lost someone in the manner those poor people were killed I would certainly be cautious but it seems to me, from the bits i know about Hillsborough, that it was the mass overcrowding due to the number of fans entering the stadium without a ticket, which was allowed through the neglect of the police and stewards, that result din the 96 deaths. We have safe standing at concerts and other sports matches and touch wood no problems. Why can't that be implemented in football. Personally there's less chance of anything happening at premier league grounds than other football grounds in the lower leagues as we have digital ticketing systems and much higher security. It seems to me like we are stalled because of an incident many years ago. Again no disrespect to the families and loved ones who lost people.
Don't be too down hearted. ''A Premier League Spokesperson'' is simply some nameless person trying to keep the status quo.
Premier League rules state if 14 of the 20 member clubs vote in favour on an issue it is carried forward (as was the 72 member Football League clubs voting in favour the other week)
So if 14 PL clubs vote for it, then the PL have to change their rule. Then the spokesperson can announce that! Until then, the spokesperson will simply carry on stating the obvious.
