I've always maintained that our overall revenue from Abu Dhabi companies is around £70m (but that's a guess). The fact the Guardian reports this story but with not even a hint at any wrongdoing by us shows all you need to know.
There's an interesting clarification in that Guardian story. They're saying it was 80% of "other commercial income" that was related to Abu Dhabi. We'll have had income from merchandise and the use of the stadium for concerts/other games, plus other non-Abu Shabi sponsors. In 2008, prior to the takeover, our total commercial income was £25m. In the 2012 FY it was £121m, which was up from £65M in 2011. That's a big jump but we'd been playing in the CL that season for the first time so you'd expect an increase.
Let's say that the £25m in 2008 was now £30m on a like-for-like basis, meaning that our other sponsorship income was something like £90m in 2012. 80% of that is £72m, which is not dissimilar to my £70m guess.
