Football Leaks/Der Spiegel articles

In general they're in a tough position. They can't completely ignore it, but nor can they take risks. So they talk around the allegations having been made. Virtually no one has gone out on a limb and made direct accusations, it's all couched in "Spiegel reports that...". It's walking a tightrope, and relying on an innocent dissemination defence.
Ducker described the allegations as damming but then uses the word allegedly as a loophole whilst trashing the reputation of the club

The Telegraph's lawyers will have been all over it, that's for sure. I know a couple of the (non-football) Telegraph journalists, and this stuff is checked and re-checked constantly. Which doesn't for a second mean it's true, merely that they will want to be covered against legal action.

I see many love the Marca article.
Because it says City was not invited to Super League talks - in March 2016.

But don't make the mistake to only read what you like.
Marca's article is based on Mediapart - the French part of EIC (European Investigative Collaboration).
Der Spiegel is the German part of EIC.

The Marca article is just a small part of the Spiegel article "Dirty deals", that I have linked last night.
Source is the same project: football leaks, by EIC.

Der Spiegel article is telling the same plans about Super League, but not stopping in August 2016 like Marca does, but until today.
Meanwhile City are said to be involved as a European top club. Not a surprise to me at all.

Read the article.
It also tells some points about the whistleblower and his intentions.
Also read on EIC homepage about their intentions and you will understand that Bayern has nothing to do with EIC, of course.
Like I have nothing to do with fuckin Bayern.

I would assume the database of football leaks being true. Similar to other well known global leaks. Stolen but true.
The intention is fighting immoral power and money driven big businesses, even by illegal means.
To add to the truth behind the picture sold to us by media day in day out.
If we like it or not.

I think this is very close to the case. I've mentioned before that MediaPart have been posting about PSG heavily.
Reuters are also listed on the Der Spiegel listing (although not by EIC) and had a different take to others.
Someone here also said that Der Spiegel broke the Hoeness story, which would make them an odd friend for Bayern.

I think it's become rather unfocussed as a result of different aspects masking the aim.

But were that to happen, then you can be absolutely certain that City would be asking for UEFA to hand over all emails as well. And I can't imagine they'd be at all keen on that.
No, but it raises an interesting question about whether we'd be prepared to challenge any ruling UEFA handed out, since if we were to take them to court in order to get FFP thrown out, we'd have to be very sure that whatever came out of the woodwork on our side wasn't incriminating.

It's Ducker's comments on Twitter that could threaten his career rather than on the Telegraph website. We'll see if City have the appetite to take-on some of these cowboys in the media. Using the word allegedly makes no difference if you simply repeat libellous comments.

Now that the story has been run, how do City respond.

1) We might be anxious to move the agenda on to something else. i.e. stay quiet,
2) We might want to issue a public statement and set the record straight from our perspective, but that would prolong a debate that is possibly damaging
3) We could brief our argument to the press and drip-feed our own opinion / 'revelations'.

Looks like they letting Pep answer the question on Der Spiegel leaks which I find incredible they should of shut down the media as soon anyone asks a question on stolen emails! City pr regarding this is baffling.

I note that Der Spiegal get their information from a guy only known as John who is Portuguese. John claims he receives the information and does not know their precise provenance. He himself has never engaged in hacking or theft and neither him or his associates are connected to any state or private organisations. John is also not his real name and he enjoys drinking prodigious amounts of larger. He loves to travel and seldom remains in the same place for very long.

It doesn't appear that any UK based journalist has access to the data via the partnerships on the EIC website. How they can vomit up so much distate and vitriol based on the say so of a guy who sounds like @gordondaviesmoustache is behind me

"The magazine [Der Spiegel] shared access to the documents with Reuters and more than a dozen other media outlets in cooperation with European Investigative Collaborations (EIC)."

Yes, absolutely so. Which is why lots of talk about legal action happens, but rarely does it actually take place. The risks are extremely high for both sides. And of course it's exactly why there was a settlement over FFP to begin with, neither side wanted to press the nuclear button.

Indeed so, and that one is down to him rather than the paper. What they say on Twitter is down to them.
