Football Leaks/Der Spiegel articles

The leaks about the super league have been rubbished as nonsense by the head of Uefa and the head of European clubs association (who is also chairman at juve).

So if they are not true, maybe none of the leaks are true
Interesting one that. Stefan Borson on the 9320 podcast (who is a commercial lawyer) said that the document that was supposedly the Term Sheet for the Super League looked dodgy. So I'd suggest it was a real document in the sense that it existed but fake in that it wasn't a real legal agreement. Threats of Super Leagues have been used in the past to get concessions from football governing bodies and I suspect the same is true here and we'll see some more changes to the CL financial distribution model or something.

Reading the BBC article on this I can envisage pressure coming for an 18-team top flight and removing PL teams from the League Cup to enable more fixtures in (another) revamped CL format.

What the hsitory clubs want is guaranteed champs league place every season no matter where they finish in the league, be like teams who have won 3 champs league titles a guaranteed entry into the champs league competition.

Plus ça change, plus c'est la même chose - a small illustration
What a surprise, this latest Mirror attack page at the top - was paraded on Conway's Super League piece this morning- which was introduced by footage of Man City celebrating their PL title. Integrity free BBC Sports editors and reporters pushing yet more lies and now propaganda against City by the most corrupt league in Europe. The version shown on the lunchtime news has just switched it to Real Madrid but now parrots the Der Spiegel anti-City allegations, adding that City say their compliance with FFP was 'exemplary' but they still promote the lie that UEFA will investigate us. They totally ignore the Der Spiegel leaks about Juve and finish triumphantly with Agnelli, the chief architect of the Super League, proclaiming that 'new clubs' must not just abide by FFP but also 'the spirit of fair play' and the utterly corrupt ECA placeman at UEFA shaking his head and intoning that the current rules are 'too weak' to enable proper competition.

At least Wayne got it right!

This is my point I guess. Der Spiegel contained factual errors in the opening line of the opening article (about City's formation) and so, in my eyes, it hadn't been properly fact-checked. A bit of an own goal because some of the errors were easy to fix - if they'd have contacted me or read one of my books about City's history they'd have got that bit right. Now that the Super League is being rubbished with some who were supposed to be behind it suggesting they may take legal action against the leaks/Der Spiegel then it's fairly obvious the whole lot of it should be properly investigated and challenged. As a historian I'm well aware that facts need to be properly triangulated and it is vital that this is done with all Der Spiegel's claims.

If I was in charge of UEFA - and any club or individual accused - I'd be seeking an independent investigation with the aim of getting the truth. Of course, this is unlikely as a full scale investigation could well identify deals etc. with various clubs, officials and so on. It sickens me that some of our best investigative journalists simply accepted Der Spiegel's stories as if they were true and it sickens me even more that few have raised the idea of investigating governing bodies and ALL clubs who negotiate and deal with them. As City fans I think we should answer any criticism of ourselves (that's way out of line!) or our club with a simple request along the lines of "we want a totally transparent, evidence-based investigation into UEFA and ALL clubs that deal with it. This must be properly triangulated so that all facts are properly evidenced and clear. Club-bias is irrelevant. What matters is that football provides a fair system that supports investment and growth of the game."

I'm pretty certain that the leading CL clubs do not want a full investigation and we all know that UEFA did their deal with City to avoid legal action. All I want is transparency, evidence based research and proper triangulation of facts and sources.

Is it a coincidence that you have used a derivative of 'triangulate' three times in three paragraphs?
