In Abu Dhabi the protocol when referring to THE Sheikh (I.e. The Emir of Abu Dhabi) is to call him "His Highness". When referring to any other Sheikh you refer to them as "His Highness Sheikh <Sheikh's name>".
Simon Pearce would not have got this wrong in a billion years as he works for the Abu Dhabi government, his City work is a part time consultancy.
This turns the smoking gun email from Simon Pearce from Sheikh Mansour providing funding to Etihad to pay City to the Emir providing funding. It therefore simply becomes a email validating the Etihad source of funding as a solid revenue stream for the next 10 years. Something any serious business does all the time.
I worked in Abu Dhabi for 3 years and got bollocked for refering to a Sheikh in an email as "His Highness". It's very, very important in their culture.

As long as the emails were not legally obtained then City’s refusal to engage makes an investigation difficult as in effect the evidence for the investigation would be inadmissible. That’s why the likes of Harris, Castles, Draper and Northcroft want City to comment, once City comment then they’ve allowed comment on the emails. In effect the only options available are to deny the emails are correct, inadvertent verify the emails or worst case potentially show inconsistency with our previous FFP submissions. Saying nothing is to goad UEFA and the FA into a problematic investigation based on the articles alone.

Whoever is driving the Der Spiegel articles is hoping, but not expecting, City to be sanctioned but the real aim is destroy our reputation and taint our success.

It’s aim is to convict City in the court of public opinion and to extent it has already succeeded.

If they ban us from Europe, do you seriously think it would be stupid to take UEFA to court? Do you think we should just accept it like we did last time when we all know how shady the FFP rules are.
 
Der Spiegel and their sympathisers/enablers are clearly getting desperate now.

It's the same story and allegations as before Christmas, only this time they have shared the images from the actual emails in question, which they stole the information from to build the original articles.

Clearly haven't had much traction so far after the last smear.

City sticking to their original statement is all that's required.
 
As the club have rightly stated, it is a clear attempt to damage our reputation.

Uefa would probably like us to win the Champions League and then place an asterisk next to it by banning us the following year, or even strip us of it.

Didn't they do likewise with Marseille when they beat Milan and Tapie was caught bribing?
