Hi all quick question despite playing the game for 12 years and knowing near enough everything about the game i never knew the answer to this question. do giving players trials cost you money in the game? because i am playing as my local team swindon and got promoted first season from league 1 ( they got relegated in real life! ;) ) but at the start of the season i had about 25 players on trials and i want to know if anyone knows if it's costs you any money to have them on trial because if so i won't bother having so much! the reason for it is because i had 1 scout it was easier to trial all the players that looked a quarter decent than scout them all individually.

As far as I know trials don't cost a penny, as the players are unattached and you don't give them a wage so they are free

ah ok thanks that's what i thought but wasn't too sure if sports interactive decided to put food and kit ect in as a cost of a trial it doesn't make much of a difference at all the odd player but i had about 27 and was worried! anyone else had sucess in league 1 or lower first season? i have nearly always struggled but seem to have a 4-4-2 that is working very well. got corradi in the championship with swindon what a legend!

So after a successful first season, my premiership campaign is about to get underway. First up, Man Utd @ OT. Great!

I have been given a measly £9m budget to fight off the threat of relegation so rather than blow it all I have been scouring the free transfer list and picking up some absolute gifts. Managed to sign Owen Hargreaves on a free who is the pick of my signings providing he can keep fit and a Brazilian defender from Sao Paolo called Miranda. Needed to bring in some more experience as well as to add depth to my fragile looking squad so managed to capture David Albelda & Carlo Cudicini on free’s also.

I’ve spent £4m on Alberto Bueno from Valladolid (he started on loan at Derby last year and bagged 32 in 43 so took a gamble on him.

Also after the success of my loan stars last year, it was obvious that route would need to be followed again. Niko Kranjcar (Spurs), Yannis Tafer (Lyon), Cedric Bakambu (ManC), Younes Kaboul (Spurs) & Mattia Destro (Inter) have also joined.

I’m fairly happy with my squad now as we approach the opening weekend, perhaps needing a full back at most to complete my squad....at least until the January window.

Not a bad side I don’t think.

Oh, one last thing. After a year long pursuit of Thiago Alcantara, I thought luck had finally arrived as Barca let him go on a free. Dozens of teams immediately bidded for him so I thought I’d go gung ho and offered him a monster wage (£41k p/w) only to be left disappointed as he decided to join Racing Santander (£21k p/w)!

I’ll be in the hunt again for him next year!

I'm looking for a decent left back for Rochdale in League1 (1st season) I have Ben Thatcher as main choice but after him I don't have anyone. So I need a cheap decent left back. Any ideas?

Try Jordan Spence on loan from West Ham? Can play all along back 4. I got him for Southampton in League 1, although i suppose they have a better rep than Rochdale.
