For those of you deluding yourselves

So having won the first 4 games of the season you expect us to continue that trend. Just because we had a good start doesn't mean we have gone massively backwards by not winning every game.

Not really....beating Wolves and Pompey 1-0 didnt suddenly have me expecting to go on a winning streak. Both teams had the chances to the take something from those games. The only win that impressed me was the Arsenal game...but we beat them last season so I wasn't getting carried away.

As Ive said....it's not the results. It's the way we are playing. We've been lucky not to lose some of the games we've drawn, so how is that an improvement ?

I would expect to see improvement over any given period of time.
Certainly not the regression we are witnessing.

We're in a bad run of form. I'm confident that's all it is, a loss of the confidence and swagger we had at the start. It's very telling that despite this poor form we haven't lost despite being behind in 3 of the 5 drawn games. We're a tougher side than we have been in my lifetime (say a lot about how shit we've been).

People were fooled by the first four games into thinking top four would be a piece of piss. We've got some tough games coming up but I expect we'll improve our form and results will pick up again. There's no doubt we're a better side than we were last year and with the league full of inconsistent teams there will be times when stringing together a run of wins will see our position improve massively. As long as we're there or there abouts (as we are now) come the second half of the season we'll have a great chance of making the top four because Hughes teams always finish strongly.

Top 4 was never going to be easy even tho in my mind its exactly where we should be with the resources that Hughes has had to work with. Where we differ is that i am not so confident that we are on a bad run of form and anywhere near close to stringing together a run of wins. But its the performances that piss me off more than the 5 draws. We look dire, and yes it has regressed as the season has gone on.

I am not deluding myself!

We are a poor team with a poor Manager & coaching staff.

Last Year every player we signed looked like a World Beater on arrival, after 3 months they looked like Panel Beaters! The same has happened this year we looked great before our fantastic Coaching Staff hed managed to screw the players up now we will struggle to finish in the top 6 let alone the Top 4, and for all those supporters of Carlos "agent" Tevez if Robinho had been as inept as he has for the last 4 games, since his match winning performance against West Ham, he would have been crucified in the press & on here. Paul Dickov ran around a lot and was a "tireless worker" & scored possibly the most important goal in our history but he didn't cost us anything from £25m to £45m depending on reports. We have been poor since we stopped playing with 1 up front, Adebayor then Tevez when he was suspended, we cannot keep trying to fit Tevez & Adebayor & SWP & Bellamy into a front 3 IT WON'T WORK!

Mark Hughes has been dignified & positive since he was given a job far exceeding his ability (when we were taken over, he should have gone then) but that does not make him the Manager to take us forward.

As my Boss (an Arsenal fan) said recently "If you had a proper Manager, with the Players you have signed, I think you could win the Title. With Hughes you will be lucky to finish Top 4"

Does your boss base that on the last time Hughes was given a big club to manage, a load of money and........oh no wait a minute, he's not had that chance before has he?

And Arsenal's "proper manager" last won the title when exactly?

Surely you're not questioning Wengers record at Arsenal?

And for your info, just so you and your boss can compare notes, Arsenal under Wenger in his first season in charge finished 3rd, which back then wasn't enough for the CL. He inherited a team which included Adamsm Bould, Winterburn, Platt, Bergkamp, Wright, et al. When they had their obligatory season slump, which I believe is what we're having now, did your boss want Arsene sacked? Look what happened there in the years to come. Ok, this isn't HUghes' first seaon in charge, but it is his first season in charge armed with unlimited funds, and so who's to say that come May 10' we are not also finishing 3rd, just like your know it all boss's team did under Wengers first year, which like I say was with a team he more or less inherited, with just the additions of Overmars, Anelka, (a kid at the time), Petit and Vieira.

its plain to see he's out of his depth, tactically he's no top 4 mgr..

I think he'd have been good for us if ADUG hadnt bought us.

Last season after 11 games - W4 D1 L6. Total 13 points and 13th in the league
This season after 11 games - W5 D5 L1. Total 20 points and 6th in the league.

We may not like the way we are playing but no one can deny that we are doing better than last season. Which is what we would expect.

Wenger took over with 1/4 of the season gone and finished 3rd that season.
His 1st full season in charge 97/98 (ie this would be Hughes equivilent season), he won the title.
