The warranty is irrelevant to the battery itself and it doesn't mean it's going to fail instantly on the day the warranty ends. Elon Musk has said the batteries can go for 200,000+ miles. If you replace it then it's as good as new again. This was my point really around batteries.
Also, when selling a car at 7 years of age, how much does it affect the price of the car. The battery still works but only has 1 year of warranty left on it.
People could be throwing thousand of quid down the drain without knowing it.
With a petrol car you can't do that. How many petrol cars can go on all of their original parts for 200,000 miles? Eventually you need a new engine, gearbox, timing belts etc etc etc. Reducing the burden in terms of moving parts limits maintenance and so it's a complete no brainer long term in that sense no matter the cost of the batteries.
The theory with EV's is you might never need to buy a new car again. You could honestly buy an EV and drive it for 400,000 miles with just a battery change needed to keep it going.
The only limiter is the rest of the car such as the bodywork, suspension etc but petrol cars share the exact same parts and problems there as well.
