i was an 80s city child and started watching city in 86 and my biggest memory as i wasnt allowed to the 5-1 was our 2 year war with crystal palace starring deakin the ref, redmond and gleghorn the goalies, nixon the boxer, wright and bright acting up,coin throwing, police escorts for officials, 8k palace fans going wild as wright scored past gleghorn, the kippax going wild after nixons red card, proper hostile for a 9 year old

your memories?

Trautmann getting sent off for kicking the ball up the ref's arse from point blank range!

OK guys - I appologise checked and he is from Manc - in my defence I was with him in Montesenos last year and he was deffo speaking with a scouse accent - mind you if I recall correctly he was next to Steve Redmond - and a great bloke with lots of jokes and stories

Born in '82. First season my Dad took me to was 1988-89, promotion season. First game was our 4-2 win over Leicester - the game where Roy Bailey ran on to help out Paul Lake whose tongue had blocked his airway (that game is on YouTube). First away game was the hammering at Ewood on my 7th birthday and remember the drive home on hearing the Hillsborough news was a strange one.

Remember the Bournmouth game well. 3-0 up at half-time and we were going up, only for us to throw it away and draw 3-3 (Gary McAlister and Ian Bishop?).

Then that great game at Bradford - MORLEY!

First ever derby game was the 5-1 in September '89.

My first World Cup memories was Italia '90. Great tournament.

i dont care where he;s from, i was asking for memories of our pitch battle and promotion battle with palace (manc by the way)

also anyone remember beating them 3-0 after promotion , it was day of benn eubank and eubank come on pitch and come over to kippax giving it big one, he was booed at first but cheered off afterwards?

S/T Holder from 1976 to 2008 and I can assure you that Palace have never brought anywhere near 8k to City, the game you mentioned finished 1-1 in our 88/89 promotion season, Palace brought around 1500, 2000 tops

Yep, was there for all of that.

Seem to remember Gleggy was pretty good between the sticks.

Nixon's red came after Wright and Bright had been cynically niggling all match, think Bright got a breakaway on a one on one with Eric to a 50/50 ball and Eric had had enough.

Being in the North Stand, felt a bit aggrieved at the decision as thought that Bright was laying it on thick again, but by all accounts Eric really did take him out good and proper.

It was actually one of the daftest penalties of all time as Nixon had the ball in his hands and was looking for a quick throw. Wright gave him a bit of lip so he kneed him the bollocks, resulting in a penalty for Palace and City down to ten men. Paul lake missed a penalty at the other end and City eventually lost 3-1.
