In essence the Drivers aren't really what F1 has ever been about. It's always been about the whole package; the design of the car, the effectiveness of the team and engineers, the tactics and skill of the drivers and crew. The driver reaps the rewards and praise, ultimately, but the whole season isn't just about the 'driver', which is why they have two and a Constructors Championship.
I don't like watching F1 to determine who the best driver is, I also want to see which is the better car, which innovations have made the bigger impacts. The Americanisation of the sport has dimmed this a little, which is why quite a number of people are saying the sport has become more boring in recent years. Think Le Mans and Endurance racing; that race is wholly about the winning team, not the winning driver/s.
