No - racism is not a criminal offence.
So why are people arrested for racist attacks/comments/tweets?

Because although people are entitled to hold racist views, they are breaking the law if they then act upon them and attack someone, but then anyone could potentially face arrest for attacking someone, regardless of any underlying racial motivation.
Comments on Twitter could arguably be contravening the Incitement To Racial Hatred Act,as you could be perceived to be encouraging others by means of being threatening or abusive through using racially motivated language.
A lot of racist jokes are performed by acts to encourage racism, that's my point.

Although, they seem to be put to one side for the in thing of religion these days.

Which comedians do you consider are intentionally encouraging racism?
Jokes which disparage other races or cultures have been going ever since comedy began.
Every joke has a victim.
Would you ban all jokes that parody racial or religious stereotypes?

In fairness, I was just asking the question that if it's OK for Boyle to make jokes about the disabled then it would seem to be fine to do the same with racism/religion/sexism and so on.

Seems there's two sides to a lot of people's views. One minute get jumpy when someone like BB2.0 says something and the next with a professional comedian be cool about it.

What if BB2.0 considers himself a comedian, even if he's a poor one?

BB2 was arguably breaking the code of conduct of this forum,in fact not even arguably,as he was banned for revealing personal details of another poster from a social network site.
If the forum has rules regarding offending others through wumming,or posting material of an offensive nature, then he would be bound by them,as he is a guest on what is a privately owned entity.
If he told a racist anecdote in the real world, then he wouldn't.
I don't think BB2 was banned for poor taste comedy.
We can choose whether or not we want to see Frankie Boyle or any other comedian with 'controversial' subject matter.
On Bluemoon, you don't get to choose who posts next,so the code of conduct exists to warn posters what is acceptable and what isn't.<br /><br />-- Sun Sep 02, 2012 3:56 pm --<br /><br />

Wasn't Stewart Lee responsible for this little gem?
(On Top Gear’s Richard Hammond.) I wish he had died in that crash and that he had been decapitated and that a jagged piece of metal debris from the car had blinded him.

Yes,and if you take that sketch in it's entirety rather than use one line out of context,it is valid and,in my opinion, funny.

i would class that as a rant as opposed to a joke

You don't get it,do you?
That line was from a lengthy sketch, which explains itself.
Quoting one random line from a whole sketch is utterly pointless.

black comedian says white man cant dance = funny

white comedian says black man cant swim = racist

how a joke is told and if you feel there is any malice in it is the only way you can judge it really

I agree - it is down to perceived intent, and any offence taken, but that in itself is very subjective and open to interpretation.
But once you start to regulate humour, where on earth do you start and stop?
And how would you enforce any laws on joke subject matter?
