Seems the support for the right to protest varies according to the perceived political alignment of the protesters. These are working class people protesting against government policies that restrict fundamental rights and the left is busy calling for them to be punished for it. Do you people have no principles left at all?

It’s a funny old game to coin a phrase isn’t it. One week is all about oppressive governments and how dare they try and stop a protest and the next, “well fuck em, they had a flag, got to be right wing racists so let’s kettle the cunts up”.

If it’s lawful, it’s all fine by me regardless of who or why they are on the streets.

I doubt I'd support their aims and imagine that there is a fair chance they contain elements linked to the lunatic Trump/QAnon/Libertarian lunatics that have gripped certain elements of the US.

However, as long as they protest within reason and without malice, they have a right to do so.

Obviously the next part is pure speculation, but I would also have big money on most of their number not being similarly sympathetic to the right to protest/match for climate protestors, black rights or anything they consider 'liberal'.

Far from it - these "lost" freedom's are in fact restriction brought in by the Govt by law - that is not how we change the law here
These have going on through lockdown in flagrant breach of lockdown rules - it seemed to anger some when it was BLM but now its ok?
Outside forces are at work here - be it in our streets to those of Canada and in Europe - there are Trump flags being carried in some places
Today's what you refer to as protest was an unwarranted assault on the Leader of the Opposition fomented by the suggestions of the PM - thats banana republic behaviour
What you refer to as protest is in fact a breach of section 5 of the public order act - a man was sent to jail for doing the same to Chris Whitty.
Opposition to these marches and convoys is in fact very principled.

Eh? Everybody should have the right to protest, regardless of who they are. The right to riot or attack others (physically or verbally) should not be condoned.

Today's protest in Westminster was an attempt to replicate the "freedom convoy" in Canada's capital in recent days.
But unlike the protest in Ottawa, the UK rally was small. Familiar faces from anti-vaccine rallies that have been held during the pandemic were in attendance.
The small gathering outside the headquarters of the Metropolitan Police had been relatively quiet up until Sir Keir was surrounded.
Amid shouts of "traitor" and references to Jimmy Savile and paedophiles, the Labour leader was accused by one protester of "ignoring our Magna Carta".
This a familiar theme used by followers of the so-called "sovereign citizen" movement.
They believe they can opt out of laws - including Covid restrictions - by invoking a clause in Magna Carta - the royal charter of rights signed in 1215.
They have handed fake legal documents to health workers and teachers to try to stop Covid vaccinations and some have even tried to remove Covid patients from intensive care wards, citing non-existent "common law" empowering them to do so.

I 100% support there right to protest even though they are likely RW nutters.

With the new laws in this country though it couldnt happen here because of the RW nutters like Patel.
