If a deal was agreed with City but FDJ preferred Barça when they made a late offer, would City go back in for him if it was the player who scuppered the deal?I think we offered what we thought was a fair £55m - £60m with £200k pw in wages, but Barça came in late & offered £65m to Ajax & £400k pw in wages to the player.
Like Sanchez, Cucurella, Pogba, Maguire, Fred & others before & since, we stuck to our valuation & personal terms & walked away when the auction started.
It could be a case of, if FDJ wanted to leave Ajax that summer, the Barça deal was the only one agreed with both the clubs involved & the player.

Why not?
He would have been a fool to walk away from a deal that would make him financial secure for this life and the next and Barca were still a decent team at the time.
We are make errors in life, poor decisions but hindsight is a wonderful thing.
I don't see what the issue would be if we went back for him, wages apart.
