Frenkie de Jong

If they haven't paid outstanding fees, they can't be in any UEFA competition. This idea needs to stop perpetuating, until UEFA specifically acts, like they did with one of the Saudi clubs. For any transfer there is a payment schedule, until there is proof otherwise, we must have agreed this schedule for the Torres transfer.

we all know though that UEFA will help them carry on? Maybe we havent complained to UEFA so they dont know?

Then it would come to light when they (ahem) 'review' our accounts

i imagine there are conversations behind the scenes with us or any other club awaiting payment to see if we want to complain? It would be nice to see them being proactive though and stop them for their own benefit!

Barcelona at this point have gotten into a mindset where they think they are a charity and its every other clubs obligation to help them just because they are barcelona, bayern have that same kind of mindset, they think they havent been given a helping hand enough and its everyones obligation to help them by giving them their players for nothing, the arrogance is amazing

Or perhaps the FFP brought in by the G/14 clubs to stop City, is biting them on the arse?

Southampton had a bigger transfer spend than Real did last season, & it seems only PL clubs can afford £60m - £100m players as standard.

My hope is this will eventually filter down to the PL in terms of transfer fees & crazy wages. The only issue I have is what happens if a minted owner wanted to spend his/her own money on transfers & wages to compete with the elite?

Will we go full circle where these clubs are told they can't invest private capital, & to build their club organically instead, invest in their academies & hope the bigger clubs don't come along & asset strip their squad because they can afford to spend more on fees & wages, because of their higher turnover?

Thet've evidently not thought this through, but why would they? It was only meant to stop City & we've seemingly gone clear & left them with the FFP mess to clear up... \0/

FDJ has a contract with Barcelona that expires 2026, with a total value of around €112m remaining in salary. Its that high because he agreed to a greatly reduced salary during the pandemic, on the condition that the reduced salary would then be added to his contract (which was already gigantic since then Barcelona club president Bartomeu had no clue what he was doing, he is the main reason they are in the financial crisis they are) during the remaining part of it after the pandemic.

This means his weekly salary today is around 40-50% higher than our highest earner KDB. Meaning that if he would come here this summer on the same salary as our highest earner (which he is probably not worth, but thats another discussion) he would have to give up around €40m worth of salary (in total) that he would otherwise get if he just stays at Barcelona. What was said last summer is that he has no intention of doing that, especially not considering a major reason the salary is as high as it is because of his own good will against the club by agreeing a reduced salary during the pandemic in the first place. And if so he wants Barcelona to compensate him for the money he would lose by going to another club, since no (European) club would offer him anything close to what he earns today. Barcelona on the other hand has no intention of paying him €40m in compensation if they sell him, the whole reason they want to sell him is because they dont want to pay him that money.

I might have got some details or numbers wrong so consider this as a broad explanation rather than a 100% factual one. Its either way a complicated situation with his contract. Barcelona only wants to move him because of his contract. FDJ doesnt wanna give up €112m worth of salary. No other club is willing to pay him that much. My guess is that he is staying at least one more year in Barcelona.
Surely he could leave and that money owed would still be owed.

The theory of these clubs is that in their heads they are just to big to fail, they will get bailed out time and time again because the old guard are desperate to cling on to their crumbling empire but they are too blinkered to see that time has moved on.

Ive said it a million times, if you're a young player now all you have known is city be successful, that is all you have ever seen, do you really think a 16-17 year old gives a crap that barca were amazing in the late nineties or that united were good ten years ago, its irrelevant to them.

Barcelona certainly believe this… they were in financial meltdown last summer, did a few dodgy deals to pre sell their future TV revenues but, instead of steadying the ship and showing financial prudence they sign 16 players and blow about £150m. Joke of a club… who will eventually run out of cash.
