Frenkie de Jong

A mad attacking LB, one who can tackle and close that side down. Other than that I think our business for summer has been agreed with an emphasis on Brazilian and Argentinian youth. Anything else will depend on the usual crap about Silva and Barca but I think our squad will be stronger even if only for this rebuilding and the younger players coming through.
Davies and Frimpong would be decent additions in the summer.

As always though, it depends on who wants out.

It’ll be about numbers though too. If he wants £400k+ a week, he won’t be coming. If Barca want £80m for him, he won’t be coming.

I’ve not watched enough of Barca over the past few years to see how he dictates games. He does seem like Gundogan, but with less goals.
Unless he’s willing to take a hefty pay cut to come here I just don’t see it, I think the money side of it will play a huge part in any decision we make.
I’m similar to you on the not seeing him much since he’s been at Barca so don’t want to go down the road of saying wherever or not he’s good enough atm.
I did like him a lot when we were originally linked tbf.

Think we’re both pretty relaxed and are trusting in the club making the right decision either way. They’ve got plenty of form.

Does de Jong fancy playing Solihull Moor next season? ;-)

Gundogan was always more of an attacking player , De Jong is more of a central player, ie Kovacic but the gulf in class is huge.

Not before he got to City he wasn’t. He moved into the false 9 and developed his attacking later in his career.
I suppose it is just what you remember, but when i watched Dortmund they pushed Mikhitaryan into the deeper role as Gundogan was a genius compared to him, before that it was just the Lewandowski Reus show

Gundogan was a 1 in 10 scorer for Dortmund. Whether as a 6 or 8, he didn’t develop timing of runs into the box and scoring until we played without a striker.

De Jong, Kimich , Musiala, Alfonso, these are the types of players the best team in the world should be looking to sign :)
