Frenkie de Jong

Hypothetical time..

Bernardo stays with us but De Jong goes to United or we swap Bernardo for De Jong?...
Easy IMO even tho I rate Bernie higher seeing as Bernie's out the door likely next summer take FDJ now for security over several years vs. knowing Bernie is packing up his things over the course of this season.

Idk how the other player will feel if somebody who wasn`t part of the recent success/trophies & fought tooth and nail to stay at Barca suddently becomes the top earner alongside KDB, Haaland. Most of the players will be fine with Haaland because of his status/position/marketing but with FDJ?.I guess it would be unavoidable that some players become "unhappy" & their agents will kock on txikis door.

Paquetas agent is in London &/or Leao would want to leave Milan (Gestifute client like Bernardo). Both would be more sensible options regarding wage structure/"Happinessindex".

isnt the whole wages thing wrong? or arent the wages over here shown after tax and the european clubs before tax?
I think the wages thing is that he signed a new contract with high base say c£400k pw and then an amendment that reduced the amount on the early years (to say c£300k pw) and increased the amount even further on the later years (to say c£500k). So they havent “not paid what hes due” as some are saying because hes been paid in line with the contract amendment but he will be due very high wages over the final few years of his deal at levels no one else will pay.

If he leaves he “loses” the c£100k pw he deffered from the early years of his contract to the later years.

Unless someone pays him that in a lump sum amount. Barca on a severance payment or buying club on a signing bonus.

Alexis Sanchez used us at Udinese to get a move to Barcelona.

We went back twice more after.

Didn't Laporte also have a rethink, but after a broken leg?
Sanchez to City/Barça came about during a period where we were an emerging force & they were the best football team in the history of football (imho). When he was moving to Arsenal, we were capped by FFP.

ManUre jumped ahead of us on our final known attempt for Sanchez & he tried to renegotiate our agreed deal to match the crazy wages ManUre had offered, so we walked away.

FDJ seemed different. Not so much trying to renegotiate a deal, but rather changed his mind once the great Barcelona stepped in & figures had been agreed with FDJ & Ajax. Word has it that FDJ was even looking for property in Cheshire, & all was good until Barça showed their hand.

As for Laporté, iirc he was injured at the time we made a bid & Bilboa & Bilboa were having a crucial season where they needed Laporté.

Laporté reportedly told us he wasn't quite ready to move to the PL for those reasons & he felt he owed Bilbao loyalty in their time of need, for giving him a chance. Apparently he told us if we could wait 18 months or so & still wanted him & could agree a deal with Bilbao, then he'd be happy to come.

Also, would City lose FDJ over his £17m deferred wages? Surely we could have agreed a lower fee with Barça to include the £17m, which they could payoff FDJ with? Surely then Barça would have the funds to match our £85m valuation for Bernardo meaning everyone's happy?

It's all speculation & no one really knows the real ins & outs of this outside of the parties involved. I've not seen any strong reports of City interest in FDJ since he moved to Barça, so all things considered it seems we're not currently actively in for the player... That's what I can make of the situation...

Frenkie is everything we need right now. Absolute no brainer
we dont need him right now....we have KDB and Gundo....maybe in 2 years but not now as he aint better than those 2 and isnt better than Bernardo Silva.....

So essentially he weakens our team replcing any of those 3 with him

Id also question his mental strength to cope with the pressure of Prem football...if he was that good Barca woldnt want rid so desperately despite their financial situation

I bet it happens more than we think. Our recruitment seems to be so specific - especially in midfielders - that we'd be limiting our opportunities if we held a grudge against everybody who rejected us.

I cant see a world where we would expect to take arguably Barcas best player and then ask him to take a paycut.
He loves being there and hes paid a shed-load for the privilege.
If he was willing to take the paycut hed just do it and stay.
This is just all a non-starter.

I know people who have left a job on around 30k a year to a lesser paid job due to the negative working environment.

If he wants a change in environment and move to a club where he is more appreciated, then he will leave Barca.

He’s probably already set for life financially and will be commanding upwards of £250k a week wherever he moves to. I doubt money will be the sole factor in his next move.
