Fulham (A) | PL | Post Match Thread

Nunes is a problem. He makes horrible decisions in proper head scratching moments. We'd just gone 3-0 up and 2 minutes to half time. Rather than clear the ball up the pitch and give us a moment to get our shape he tries to control it out of the air and beat 2 players. Loses it and they score. He has the potential to be a really good player and just when you think he's proving he can be one he drops a bollock that usually costs us a goal.
I see how his pace is an asset but he is learning on the job and is going to make mistakes. I am not sure that either fullback have got a defensive mentality

I was absolutely livid we conceded before halftime.
We go in at 3-0 that second half performance doesn’t happen imo.
I know we scored early doors second half, but I was never, ever comfortable.
Nunes conceding possession very cheaply in the build up.

Agree. From the Putney Road end one of their goals looked like Rodri scoring at Istanbul. Unstoppable . Watching it was like seeing a bullet leaving the sights of a rifle .

Didn't make me happy , only nervous , to see so many good goals stacking up but it's better than the six yard scrapfest and bundle over the line we seem to be having to pretend is top level football this season .

I’ve no problem with Nunes the mad is doing ok considering he isnt a full back and does add assists but surely it’s time for Khusanov to be stepping up and his speed would be helpful as well.

Regrettably last night Nunez looked like what he is, a midfielder learning to play right back. NOR as good as he has been is also learning to play left back. It is no coincidence that for the second game in succession the opposition manager made substitutions at half time to exploit our inexperience at full back.
Sunderland with their players and set up will aim to do that for 90 minutes at the weekend not 45

Why the club and Pep have this major problem is beyond me, We have everything money can buy, The best manager in the world, The Etihad campus, The best treatment/recovery rooms. So why does nobody want to sign and come play the fullbacks roles ?

Look, it's not cheap buying world-class players, but we have a very good young squad and with a couple of new signings City will be in the race for titles and silverware every season, How hard is it to sell the club to the best fullbacks ? Just buy the best, even if it costs over the market value you will get it back in prize money alone

What full backs? There are hardly any world class full backs anywhere. There is one single world class right back in football at the moment; Hakimi.

Two centre backs - Gvardiol and Calafiori - are rated up with the top left backs in the world so you can see the struggle on that side n’all. Outside Mendes and Davies I wouldn’t describe any left backs as world class. Davies has played about 3 games in 2025 and I’d say the only player looking like being next in-line to him is Nico O’Reilly who isn’t world class yet.

A bit like once you get past Haaland, Kane, Mbappe and Lewandowski and maybe Alvarez, there are no world class strikers. Twenty years ago there were about two-dozen world class strikers in the game.
