Fulham League Cup - Post Match Thread

Compare this game to the Wolves game in the same round last season sky sports team rating was this

Man City: Bravo (9), Danilo (6), Mangala (5), Adarabioyo (6), Zinchenko (6), Bernardo (6), Toure (6), Sterling (6), Gundogan (7), Aguero (5), Jesus (5)

Subs: Walker (5), Stones (5), De Bruyne (4), Sane (5)

My take is watching tonight’s game our second string capability has moved up considerably, to be fair Wolves last season were more worthy opponents, but there are some blindingly obvious upgrades in our side

Has anyone mentioned that Zinchenko was class tonight. Some great crosses and very good on the ball.
Did you see his dodgy 'tackle'. Tried sliding in with his left leg from about twenty yards away, missed by about ten. He's got some great skills but cannot do that at this level.

A really impressive performance given how many of those players haven't played much recently. Should have been a lot more than 2-0 really but we managed the game well all the same. The players weren't always on the same wavelength but it generally felt a lot more coherent and controlled than these second string games in Pep's first couple of seasons.

Foden really does look every bit a first team player. He's surely ahead of Gundogan in the pecking order now and we really don't need to be 3-0 up before he gets thrown on in the league. He makes the game look so easy.

Bizarrely i thought Brahim was probably the worst player of the XI that started, not that anybody performed badly, but there's a lot to be said for being able to actually put the ball in the net. I suspect that a few of our more established attacking players would have blazed over or found their shot blocked for that second goal but Brahim showed great composure. Otherwise he had a few nice moments but seemed to pass up quite a few opportunities to try and beat his man and make something happen. Goals aside, i'm not sure he's really advanced his case to be making the matchday squads in the league anytime soon, but it's a nice boost for him all the same.

Danilo did very well. I feel he attacks much better than Walker does, although he does still make me a little nervous defensively. I'd always favour Walker in the big games where his recovery pace is crucial, but Danilo offers plenty against teams that defend deep.

Loved some of what i saw from Jesus tonight. He can't buy a goal at the moment but it looks like he's got his mojo back over the last few weeks which is great to see. If he keeps playing like that the goals will come.

Delph looked sharp. Zinchenko continues to impress. Sane was a constant threat. Another clean sheet for Muric.

Lots of positives to take from that.

I thought the same, one of his best performances in a while, he always works hard, but got into better positions tonight, and I don't remember him being offside, just could do with shinning one in.

Best attitude of the night: Jesus. Desperate to score. It just wasn't his night. Some great little cameos. Loved his attitude. He was very demanding of the other players too which is good. You hear it when you are on the front row and he was demanding the ball all the time. I like that.

Good for you, very intelligent repost.

Disagree with you, I’m sure their right back would as well.

Think you might revisit your opinion if you watch the game again.
He was involved in everything good we did and pressed incredibly hard.
Second half i was sat very close to where Sane was on the pitch in the cb stand. For me Sane was fantastic and everyone around us was cheering him. He has a very high risk game in trying to beat players, therefore is likely to lose posession occasionally. 2nd half especially he was electric, beating players with outrageous skill, his balance and foot work in tight areas are world class and hes only going to get better. He would have capped off a great performance if Jesus hadnt of headed the ball just when he was about to nod it in for our 3rd goal. Any criticism of Sane - for me at least - is suprising.

Agree with all that. Gundogan is a strange one. He was great in Germany and I do think he brings something to the team. He has a maturity and is very tidy but isn't a risk taker. It's like he doesn't give his everything because he doesn't want to make a mistake. But he can score a goal, and is a reliable penalty-taker (he's german after all, well kind of). I think if he doesn't make it this season, it will be game over.

Went tonight. Great result, flat atmosphere to be expected . Thought Jesus was great, Foden average at best. Sane rubbish for most of it.
Professional performance and thought KDB was great at getting the ball back and getting back to form (if not injured)
I hear very good things about Gomez and would have liked to see more.

That crowd figure sounds wrong to me. Bottom two tiers were more or less sold out and that's 35,000 at least, then add on what's in the 3rd tier of EL3
Have you got blue tinted specs with tape obscuring your focus? I didn't go tonight but I watched a stream and there were plenty of gaps in both first and second tiers. Sorry Marvin, but I have to say it how I see it blue.
