Full Backs?

I was thinking of Maicon, Clichy and Sagna. They all had the feeling of being a stop gap rather than someone who'd go straight into the starting 11 and own the spot for the next 5 years. They've each had varying degree's of success.

If you think of the money we've spent on centre backs we've not really spent on full backs. Since the takeover the only big spending I can think of at full back is Kolarov. Now its got to the point where we have 4 full backs over the age of 30 on decent money and not one of the four has really had claimed the spot for their own.

Yea. Maicon was a silly move. Clichy came with a good rep. Don't think he did too badly but it's long past time he was replaced. Sagna - well I guess the FFP had a lot to do with that.

Totally agree. We need younger, better full backs and needed them this season.

Still have undying love for Zabs, even if his time is at an end.

Can see a massive clearout coming. I really wouldn't be shocked if a couple of big name players who aren't getting any younger got cashed in to help fund things.

Looks like Robertson is off to Burnley for 10mil, I like the look of him to be honest. Playing in a poor Hull side hasn't helped him. Be interesting to see how he does at Burnley.

With Robertson going it is more of an side step move not one to improve his career. There are not many domestic full backs have really stood out (although Bertrand looks a decent squad player but would be at an over-inflated price)

It would also be nice to find some diamonds in the rough from the french league at full back. Having some bargain buys would be amazing.

It's seems to be down to Bernat or the Benfica player in the summer. Kolasniac is another defensive minded player who wouldn't offer much more in our system we are trying to play. Chelsea are still going down the Mourinho route.

Grimaldo/Gaya/Bernat.. How did we have all the scouts on Gabriel Jesus and didn't go to Flamengo to watch Jorge more often is beyond me. I really hope he doesn't shut us down when we play Monaco. He would've been perfect for us. Bargain buy as well.

Given what Pep wants from his full backs - I wonder whether our search could be wider than just exiting fullbacks. Are there not good midfield players out there who could adapt. A la Fernandinho - this may get us good value and more complete players. Just a thought.

Agree to an extent but it's hard to convert a midfielder to a fullback. Pep does love his multifunctional players though. Alaba would be perfect, he could play CB, LB and CDM, would never happen though.
