Full Backs?

Mentioned him in the players we aren't linked with thread a while ago so nice to see a link. Not really surprising he's got everything we want and everyone at Monaco is getting (deserved) attention. Didn't actually have a great game vs. PSG in the game they're saying Pep scouted him at.

I saw Andros Townsend on loan at QPR play a few times play at full-back and thought he had the makings to perfect the role.

Very fast, likes to attack and really strong. Reminded me of Kyle Walker and Danny Rose before they turned good. He went on to play for England.

And, let me remind some, Spurs never won a single game when Bale played at full-back and he was out the door and nicknamed a Jonah by Spuds fans until they pushed him higher up.

You just never know with these wide players with big engines.

The answer no matter how many times you do the math is Bellerin, he knows Peps style. For the left it is either Alex Sandro or Rose. p.s Walker is shit at the top level, don't want us fleeced by Levy

What make speckle think Bellerin would come recent new contract and even if did want to come arsenal wouldn't let go cheaply

He's from Barcelona, La Masia trained, understands the philosophy. Pep is most likely one of his idols. Bellerin signing a new contract doesn't mean much tbh. Wenger brought him there and he has respect for him but Arsenal are underachieving and will probably lose their best player(s) this summer. Bellerin would be joining a side that will actually compete for trophies and not for 4th place. Probably would cost £40-50 M and would be worth it IMO. Only 21 years old, could potentially lock up the RB slot for the next 10 years.

We should go all out for Alex Telles or Alex Sandro at left back.
Both tall and physical as well as being fast and techical. Alex sandro would be the best we could buy, he is the full back we have been crying out for since football began.

I've actually not been that impressed with Bellerin recently. Yes he's young, but he's not actually a very good defender. His pace often bails him out because he's positionally all over the place.
I think he is just okay as an overall fullback. Good overall attacking technique. But only okay defensively.

I think there are cheaper more complete options.

After all the hype last season, I've watched him closely many times this season and I think he's a liability at the back. Gets knocked off the ball easily, doesn't know where to be half the time and hasnt made such an impact going forward. He's a good prospect but he isn't anywhere near as good as some say. Rather give maffeo a chance.

I've always said this about him, his positional sense is zero and he's bullied far too easily - he's still young enough to improve but he's been playing first team football for 3 and a half years now and there's no sign of improvement, he's probably at the wrong club to be honest as Wenger often seems blind to faults in the younger players' overall games, although you'd think Bould would have sorted it by now as he must surely be able to see it.

Reminds me of Clichy tbh, he was probably better at a younger age iirc and he went absolutely nowhere as a footballer. Not convinced he ever improved past the age of about 21, like a lot of Arsenal players, or players in England in general tbh

Yeah had a chat with an Arsenal fan in the family about this at Christmas, when he asked me why kids found it easier to break through at Arse and the Rags than City or Chelsea, I said it was because they were just replacing the last academy players that never progressed or were just plain over-hyped at those 2 clubs, instead of trying to oust international players.

If someone young comes in and doesn't completely shit the bed, there is a tendency for everyone to declare them brilliant and that they are worth £xm because they'll only get better and be a great player for the next decade. Not convinced it's at all backed up by history. So few players in England actually seem to improve after they get that initial hype

Tbf the hype in England is absolutely fucking ridiculous driven by a media that lives off setting people up for a fall, the standards and expectations are set far too high to begin with and the players have to improve beyond all recognition to match them. At the same time none of the youngsters at Arsenal actually seem to improve past the age of 18 or 19 though, the last 2 I can think of were Fabregas and to a lesser extent Nasri.

It's funny you mentioned Clichy, he was replaced by Gibbs who was the next big thing there and actually looked decent, benchwarmer for them now and no better a player than he was at the age of 18.

Gibbs, Oxlade-Chambelain, Walcott, Wilshere, Jenkinson, Chambers, Coquelin, Schszny, Ramsey. All of them going absolutely nowhere with their development, if anything most of them are actually worse than when they broke into the team. Weird that he never gets called out on it, because people are generally not shy about having a pop at Wenger

Stones was chased by Mourinho and Guardiola, two of the best defensive managers in the world, with vastly differing styles. The fact that 2 such successful managers both thought he was worth over £40m is good enough for me.
I hope you are right as I really like the lad , not a very auspicious start though

Yeah they really have a bad track record at this stage. I suppose there's enough ammo there already that they don't need it.
