Full Backs?

Agree to an extent but it's hard to convert a midfielder to a fullback. Pep does love his multifunctional players though. Alaba would be perfect, he could play CB, LB and CDM, would never happen though.

Henrichs from bayer leverkusen would be a good fit. He can play cm lb and rb. Kimmich from bayern too

Henrichs is certainly a very good option, I think Kimmich would be impossible to sign. We've been linked a couple of times to Henrichs haven't we?

We've been linked with him but judging by what his agent said it doesn't look like he'll be joining us anytime soon unfortunately

Given what Pep wants from his full backs - I wonder whether our search could be wider than just exiting fullbacks. Are there not good midfield players out there who could adapt. A la Fernandinho - this may get us good value and more complete players. Just a thought.

I completely agree, there's no stand out fullbacks that are available and in all honesty I think the way we try to play requires a different skillset than the traditional fullback.

The one I think has the closest skillset in terms of technical ability and his physical attributes is Oxlade-Chamberlain but I don't know if he's intelligent enough to learn Peps' tactics and patterns of movement. I might be doing the lad an injustice but I think it's the biggest failing of English players and managers.

Interesting that Pep tried Fern on Sunday at FB. Didnt think he looked too bad - better than our left back anyway.

Think we're really going to struggle to get a good RB in the summer. The calibre of player we'll be needing are already in short supply, and with us, Barca and (with Lahm deciding to retire early) Bayern competing for the same few players I think it'll be difficult. Judging by the paper talk the rags are in for a new one too. Heinrichs, Cancelo & Semedo seem to be the only options really and I reckon it'll be a huge tussle between those 3. Maybe a couple of others like Walker, Sidibe or Bellerin but they're less likely to leave their clubs. I bet there'll be huge fees involved too because the selling clubs will be well aware that there's a demand for right sided full backs. Drawn out transfer saga of the summer?

Bayern already has a RB in Joshua Kimich. Barcelona is interested in Cancelo. So by and large we'd have first dibs at one of Semedo, Perreirra Heinrich, Karsdorp, Mario Gasper, and probably Fabihno.

And for what it's worth, I don't think they will all be expensive. We just have to get the right guy. He doesn't already be a star. Just a great fit for what we want to do. Zaba wasn't a star when we got him, heck he wasn't really a RB. Just an utility player who grew into his role.

We need more of that type of scouting. Projecting good fit. As opposed to buying ready made guys in other systems.

what bluemooners think about Luke Shaw?
i think he will be gone from rag in the summer.
him and Maffeo will be a good back up with their homegrown status.
but still need to find 1st team starter for both position.

In hindsight I wish we'd have gone for him, he could have potentially solved our LB problems, think it's impossible now though.

It's hard to judge properly based on the league he plays in, but Kieran Tierney at Celtic looks absolutely brilliant every time I see him.

Think that long-term injury he had has really set him backwards.

I saw Andros Townsend on loan at QPR play a few times play at full-back and thought he had the makings to perfect the role.

Very fast, likes to attack and really strong. Reminded me of Kyle Walker and Danny Rose before they turned good. He went on to play for England.

And, let me remind some, Spurs never won a single game when Bale played at full-back and he was out the door and nicknamed a Jonah by Spuds fans until they pushed him higher up.

You just never know with these wide players with big engines.

Would still like to see us bring Trippier back in. Looks very tidy and with Maffeo we'd be in healthy shape i the right.

The left is the big concern tbh, as everyone knows.

Kimmich is Bayern's utility player, he plays in most positions and has only played at RB to deputise for Lahm. I'm sure his future will be mostly in midfield and there's absolutely no chance they won't buy another right back.

I forgot about Perreira, he's some talent and I'd like us to be in for him too. Gaspar is also a good shout. Fabinho has played most of the season in midfield and has been phenomenal there, might be useful for the inverted full back thing but I doubt we're in for him. But when it comes to fees I was talking about the players who are established in their position, the top quality yet still attainable full back that we're desperately needing. Again that doesn't have to be a stellar name, just someone who will be worth the money.

Yup. Someone just posted Bayern being linked to Semedo. So I guess we either challenge them or take our pick of

Perreirra, Karsdorp, Heinrich, Fabihno and Gasper. I don't reckon I've seen a link to any of them. I was just suggesting there was enough talent been showcased at RB in Europe alone that we need not worry too much I'd our scouts and management do their jobs.

Also the way Pep plays his fullbacks, this search inst probably limited to just traditional fullbacks. I can see us getting a Midfielder and playing him there.

We've been linked to Gaspar briefly and had a few sources saying we're looking at Heinrichs, though his agent came out a few weeks ago and said he's not ready to move to a top side yet.

Maybe you're right, but there have been very little links to right backs and that's got me thinking. No idea who we're going to get but I guess it's exciting.

If I'm being honest, my want for a RB is a bit out of greed. I want Semedo and if not Perreirra. Absent those 2, I'll be fine with Gasper, Heinrich, Karsdorp and Fabihno. I think all 6 could play multiple roles comfortably.

But if push comes to shove I think Dihno and Maffeo can handle RB. To be fair, it is Maffeo I'm worried about. Dihno will do a great job there. The only question is whether Maffeo can challenge him and share the position. If he can't, then we need one of those kids.

Either way, whatever we do, I hope we don't Zero in on someone like Bellerin and get all tunnel vision about it and overpaying. If we are interested in him, we should do so in the manner we chased Pogba. Offer a fair price, I'd it's not accepted, move on.

Isn't there someone at the dippers playing at left back at the moment? Maybe not though as I heard that he left his last club to play in his "ideal"(in his own mind at least) position of centre mid and to win trophies...
