Fulop your boots!

Apparently Fulop is 6 foot 5 tall.

Could be just what we need against the giants he will face in Villa and Spuds forward lines

did you know Fulops dad was in Escape to Victory think he was on the germans team any how Summerbee will know him.

On the other hand...

Fulop could save a pen in the last min against spurs, clinching us 4th.

Then it would be all fine and dandy.
Or Gunnar who is the first Faroe player in the Prem and not a Leicester reject could do it. Fuck me, he didn't get one game at Spurs and only managed SEVEN fucking SEVEN at Chesterfield.

-- Tue Apr 27, 2010 11:29 pm --

So is Gunnar

I appreciate the sentiment behind those saying 'give Gunnar a chance', but really? A COMPLETELY untested keeper for the three most important matches in City's recent history? Sorry, no way. Fulop kept Craig Gordon out of Sunderland's first team for a long spell this season, and CG is record-signing, full international etc. He's not great, sure, but I remember him putting in some top performances mid-season. Most of you guys who are talking up Gunnar have probably never seen him play (unless you regularly go to training) discounting Arsenal where he had zero big decisions to make. I'm not knocking him, I'm sure he's a good prospect, but then, I have literally NO IDEA!

And crucially, I reckon that the coaching staff, and especially the professional goalkeeping coach (obligatory ffs) have a better insight into the merits of Fulop vs. Gunnar than us experts.

Oh, and for those saying we should stick with 'one of our own', take a look at how long each of our first team have been at City. Christ, everyone loves AJ and he's been here, what, 12 weeks?! And don't use the 'ah but he'll be here for the long term' - what about PV?

More confident with him than a youngster always seemed a decent keeper when I've seen him. Nice one to Quinny aswell for doing us a big favour ;)

Not sure about decent keeper, don't forget he`s already let 4 goals in at eastlands in hughes's last game. He also let seven in against Chelsea, when apparently he`d played well?

Even santa cruz has scored past him this year!

So are you saying that its always a goalies fault if a team put 4 passed him ??
What about defenders and midfielders, isn`t that part of their job ?
Unfortunately its always the goalie who takes the brunt.
All I want him to do is come off his line when those anticipated high balls are going to come in for Carew,Heskey and Crouch !!

I think he's a fairly good keeper with an experience of performing under pressure, which is what we need.

Hart was obviously first choice, but the Prem cancelled the deal - hence, an agreement with Birmingham (that would satisfy the overlooking authorities nor us to be fair) could not be reached.

Shame for him and I don't think he'll be so keen on going back there next year with Brum making his opportunity to shine so difficult. Publicity wise they've done well though, they've set terms that we would find hard to agree to (milking us, essentially) and the premier league would say they cannot accept, shouldering all the blame. It's the club there though, who I believe very intentionally, made the Hart transfer very difficult to process. However, I don't blame them, as they must put their own interests first and for their stadium full of fans, being seen as a feeder club to us would not be the best way to do it.

We knew the terms when we agreed the loan with them in the summer - whether it's a deal Mancini would agree to, I doubt. But Hart has done well from a neutral perspective, Birmingham should have our gratitude for enabling him to evolve into the keeper he is today. Yes, their actions have been selfish and negative from out perspective, but that's what you do.. as a football club. You put your interests first and sadly for us, theirs and ours haven't matched this time.

Gunnar won't feel too gutted, I'm sure. It's not only a question of ability, it's the experience that is necessary to work with the back line under pressure and cope with big moments and high expectations... I'm sure he'd do well if he was mentally right for the occasion.. but the spotlight that would be on him before the games coming up would create a risk, I personally think, we should look to avoid, if possible.

Looking forward to the training report..
