I think every city player at the world cup with the possible exception of John Stones has looked a lesser player than they do at City. The reasons are obvious, they are not playing in a team coached by a genius, they are surrounded by either lesser or megalomaniac talent, they are played out of position. It might change and one of them sets the competition alight but I doubt it for these reasons.

True. And look how much better Brazil were after Fern came on. I thought Delph stood out for England last night too.

I genuinely believe that if City were in this tournament we would win the world cup. Then again, so would Real, Barca and probably Bayern and Chelsea!

It’s been interesting watching the overall standard. So far, Spain and Croatia are the only teams I have seen playing high standard, technical football, albeit sporadically. I have loved the excitement of many of the games, but if you were a top level coach, you would learn very little watching this lot!

Completely agree. The Liverpool style of play is succeeding in this tournament. Counter attacking with pace. The build up has been too slow from possession teams like Spain and Germany. City have Sterling and Sane and attacking full backs who stretch play whilst we keep possession. France, Brazil, Belgium and Croatia can also do that so I see them as the likely teams to do well but you never know. The likes of Portugal and Uruguay can grind results out whilst Spain have so much talent they will get chances. When they lose the ball they look vulnerable.

England need to address the gap between defence and attack better to succeed. Lingard Sterling Kane and Alli are often all in similar areas leaving huge gaps for Henderson and the defence to find them and leaving little option but to try a difficult pass. That is why from open play we haven't been great. The Colombia game will be a challenge.

As for Gabby, he needs to be more proactive at trying to get on the ball and staying onside!

That's not the Liverpool style of play though. They usually dominate possession and while they're play is defined by fast breaks, it's usually from the middle of the pitch after recovering the ball through very intense pressing which almost no one at the world cup is doing, because it's very difficult/impossible to get a group to learn how to do it effectively in 3 weeks.

Teams defending deep and counterattacking isn't the Liverpool style of play.

I am seeing jesus as standing still and not kicking for the last twelve months (look at sterling and Sane). I hope he picks it up again this season. His potential is huge but without further improvement he will not be good enough in the future.

This Barca sniffing has been doing rounds for few days . Media shit stirring or time to flap ? Any itk ?

Not ITK. Shit stirring w potential moving forward is what I’d call it. Suarez is getting up there in age and after next season GJ will effectively ‘be established’ as a bigger name with experience. I think we’ll tie him down by the end of the season and that’ll be the end of that in these types of links.

Just speculation here but I think teams are scared to poach our players out of respect and fear. If they came in and swooped up Kun a few years back, KDB in a year or two, GJ now, then who knows how city might react. As of now I think we’re playing nice with our financial advantage. I’d speculate that they don’t want to wake that beast.

Since the take over, and more so since th me trophies started to roll in, we’ve only lost players on our terms. We’ve kept Aguero and more notably, Silva - both world class players the likes of Barca and Madrid would relish. I do however think of one of the star players would ever go, it will be Jesus to Barca. Not necessarily now but when he’s had 3-4 solid and impressive seasons with us. I believe the attraction to them as a South American will prove too much to resist.

hes not had a great world cup to be fair..... the coach has stuck with him...needs a performance vs mexico if he wants to start

This.

Setting up a team to defend low is pretty easy. Setting up counters from low block is easy.

That is why lesser teams do so well.

Any kind of more advanced attacking is really hard, and almost impossible to drill in a short period of time.
