Gabriel Jesus - 2017/18 performances

Some games this season, Jesus has looked well ahead of Aguero in form. Recently, Sergio has looked very sharp indeed. I wish some would accept that we have two top-class strikers who play for two of the best international teams in the world. Why do we need to nit-pick about who is more deserving; we need them both!

This is Exciting. We seldom disagree :)

I don't know if saying Jesus 'deserves' time is accurate. Should he get playing time behind Aguero? Sure. But if you look at some of the claims above and on the game thread, the suggestions tend to lean towards ' "Jesus should start coz he needs to get into playing shape." That sounds a lot like the "Aguero should start because of all he had done in the past" arguments.

Neither rings true or acceptable to me. The in form striker should always start. And the other can get time as there is.
Aha jokes on you! We didn't disagree but we just had different interpretations on what posters meant by time!

I'm with you in the 'Jesus should play for the sake of getting minutes camp' being a bit silly. I made the error of thinking time meant patience (as in, we shouldn't write him off just yet), not minutes ;)

At some point in the season when Aguero was poor and Jesus lively, a lot of the Super-Aguero fans went balistic when some suggested Jesus sholsh be starting. And those Aguero boys made silly arguments and often resorted to insults against those who made such suggestions.

Unfortunately, now I'm.seeing the reverse. A lot of pro-Jesus fans trying to find argument for why Jesus deserves time and the like.

I'd like to think of myself as a 'just the facts' follower. And at this point in time Aguero is simply and undeniably the better option. And should always start until further notice.

That's what the most recent facts suggest.

If you’re referring to me Dax I never said that Jesus be starting over Kun. I agreed with that poster who would pick him though. I think in a vacuum GJ should start but at this present time there’s no chance in hell you pick him over Kun.

Doesn’t matter anyway now though bc Kun is out for weeks.

I think he’ll have a marginally better career than Sergio. He could even come to be seen as one of the all time greats. He’s absolute top drawer.

Is aguero over higuain in the pecking order? How awesome would that be to see them meet in the finals of the WC. Have a little battle going on for a few more seasons before Kun goes to Argentina

It's hard to say. Missing the internationals won't help as it's very up for grabs still the last spot, but this version of Aguero would almost certainly be a starter and first choice. He should have no problems on that front provided his form doesn't dip noticeably (it shouldn't) towards the end of the season.

There was a lot of good things said in Argentina a few months back, folks there are really impressed with how his overall game has developed since Pep arrived.

Maybe keep Jesus out of the games though, last time he played Argentina Otamendi almost blinded him IIRC haha :p

He was struggling for goals well before his injury so hopefully the one against Basel kick starts his golden touch again.

The derby showcased the versatility he brings to the front three but Sergio's form and performances have been incredible. With Pep's early season comments about playing them both only with the like of Mendy as well, it'll be interesting to see if, more so when, he goes back to that team.

His role isn’t to score goals. That’s the point I’m trying to make. Goals come from making the right decisions leading up to them. There’s a lot of actions that take place before they come and his job is to press, linkup, consitantly move, and get behind the line and in good positions. He’s so good at disrupting play and setting things into motion at the early stage.

Probably won't see it until next season. His comments about Mendy today would suggest we won't be starting Mendy enough before the season closes to make that formation worth it.

I wouldn't be surprised to see him play Jesus ahead of Aguero in a CL game if he thinks it's necessary. Not saying he will, especially considering Aguero's form. But as AD says there's a lot Jesus does that transforms our team in a different way, and it might have it's tactical benefits that Aguero just can't provide.
