Game of Thrones (season 8)

She's just deliberately murdered thousands of innocent people. If that's not out of character, what has she been doing all this time? And why are all these supposedly intelligent characters following her?

She's always had people to rein her in, every season she talks about burning down cities or returning them to the dirt. She's always been told and thought that you can rule through fear and love and ever since she's been in Westeros love has been consistently ripped away from her. I think they could have done it better with more time but I didn't really have a problem believing it.

Was busy enough yesterday that I averted any spoilers before watching with my wife last night - we both agreed these battle sequences are far too long & intense but hey, it's GoT

Personally, this was nearly a 'jump the shark' sort of episode with Danaerys' red mist all too conveniently fitting the Targaeryan narrative of all being mad
Yep,all very forced.Like they suddenly thought 'hang on...isnt she meant to go mad at some point'

Same with 'Cleganebowl' - it felt like a case of making it fit.

I don't have a problem with the idea that she goes bad, that's fine. It's that the internal logic of it doesn't make sense. Becoming a genocidal maniac has to have at least a bit of a reason, and when everyone has surrendered and she's won seems an odd one to pick. They could have done that far, far better.

She has always had this aspect to her character, she's still a kid all the advisors she actually liked and trusted are dead, she's lost two of her dragons, she's been 'betrayed' by the person she loves and she knows that she's not loved by the people on this side of the sea. I don't really get the idea that this is somehow out of character or even particularly unexpected.
Didn’t say it was out of character, I said the story arc has been underwritten. If the battle scenes in episodes 3 and 5 had been reduced by 20% it would have given far more time for building a more emotionally engaging story of the relationships between Danny/John/Tyrion/Sansa/Varys. I think the Arya/hound and Cersei/Jamie stories have been better if not perfect.
I still enjoy it but am saddened because it could have been a great deal richer.

That’s it for me. She has turned a ‘bad day in the office’ into Armageddon. It’s far too big a leap of credibility.
