Just because we recoup some money doesn't mean we have to spend it..

There's also January to consider. Pellers and Txiki may want some room for manoeuvre in case we need to bring someone in.

I thought I read on FFP thread that £49 million restriction only applies to this window, am I right or wrong ?
does it matter much we have roughly £30m to spend when we sell Garcia for 12-15m.

Yes exactly, we can spend now, and not worry about saving for Jan window as Love Bites and Everything implies !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Mirror now reporting that Zenit has bid £12.5m for Javi Garcia

I think if we can get £22.5m for Garcia and Rodwell I think that is pretty reasonable and decent business by City considering their positions in the current City squad.

If we can get around £10m for Richards, Guidetti and Sinclair then for me that would leave us with a decent summer net spend.

He had a good season last year.

That being said, £12.5 million would surely be too good to turn down.

Surely if we have sold Rodwell and Garcia we are going to keep Zuculini in the squad?

Just because we can spend £49 mill net doesn't mean we will, or the club want to. Fairly sure Mangala will be the last in this summer.

Lampard has taken his spot.

Zuculini will go on loan.

I agree, leaves us with decent emergency kitty for January if you like to call it with roughly £30m to spend depending if we get 12 or 15m for Garcia. And Richards, Guidetti & Sinclair sales for £10m combined would surely leave us with £30m to spend atleast.

By "end of the week" so maybe tomorrow announcement considering its Friday then? Who knows but he is pretty much gone it seems.

The sanctions only apply to this window don't they? We won't have to worry about net spend come January.

Yes i agree, and I'm not saying we should. I am merely trying to get confirmation as to whether the restrictions on spending are for THIS WINDOW only, yes or no ?

Well the MCFC statement said "for this UPCOMING window" so probably only this summer window.

We don't need to spend anything else after Mangala. As Soriano said, our squad will be complete for now and we don't buy for the sake of it. Next summer there will probably be a need to change things again. A smaller net spend than most of us expected should also help the club achieve profitability to remove sanctions in future, then we can really upgrade our squad by perhaps investing in a world class marquee player next summer for the first time in a few years.

Do we really need a marquee player?

I prefer clever scouting personally.

Atletico Madrid and Dortmund, even Bayern Munich don't go chasing marquee players yet they win trophies.

Nearly every top club buys marquee players if they can... because they're usually world class and improve you, plus have other benefits. Gotze was a marquee signing for Bayern despite his young age, because he is the golden boy of German football. A bit like Barkley, if he has a great season now, would be a marquee signing for us... he would become English football's golden boy.

Clever scouting has its place and we do plenty of that, but marquee signings like Tevez and Aguero have been great too. I mean, in a hypothetical situation would you turn down the chance to sign Gareth Bale for £60m next summer?

You can't really include Bayern Munich in that, Dortmund and Atletico don't win things regularly.

Bayern very rarely purchase players that are valued over £35m though.

Unless it's the next Messi or Ronaldo I don't see the point in spending more than £40m on a player and it's usually players valued more than that that are deemed marquee.

£30-35m is marquee money, in fact I'd say anything over £20m you have to expect big things from.

I'd call Robben, Lewandowski, Gotze, Javi Martinez and Neuer marquee signings to be fair. In an ideal world everyone would scout players and spend 30 million less, but there's a large element of risk within that. When you splash out on an Aguero, Silva or Yaya, you know you're getting the finished article.
