Garden Birds and wild birds thread.

Was watching a male Killdeer following a female all around the garden today. He was at it most of the afternoon. I don't know why he just didn't slip her one and have done with it, she's going to let him in the end anyway!!

I'm just hoping they don't nest in my raised beds, because it's going to make things difficult.

The eggs and young are easy prey for those fucking racoons and crows unfortunately, but I'll be doing my best to protect them and give them the best chance.

We've had Robins for a couple of weeks now, they are the size of your thrushes and as dumb as stumps.

Red-winged Blackbirds are also here and also the Cowbirds, although the cowbirds and myself have an agreement when they show up every year.

Love seeing the birds around and more to come when spring arrives properly.

Cardinals round these parts.
Ah, but you're in the balmy tropics.

Unfortunately it's a rare occurrence when I get a Cardinal here, not enough cover I suppose.
I've put up a feeder to try and attract some Baltimore Orioles, beautiful birds.

Do you get those down there in your trendy cosmopolitan area? :)

I get Bullocks Orioles for a week or two most springs, cut up oranges and hang them up, they love them. Never seen a Cardinal here but suicidal Robins are back, cow birds, red winged blackbirds, evening grosbeaks, waxwings, finches of all varieties, chickadees, saw several ospreys today, loads of hawks, bald eagles, goshawks, kestrel, owls blah blah

i had a strange drop off in garden birds in summer 2021, and they've never recovered. Admittedly i live in suburbia that wasnt built with nature in mind, but quite a few of us have decent gardens. hey ho.

getting lots of insects though, 4 summers of planting flowering plants is really paying off. Loads of bees, drone flies, snipe fly, soldier fly/beetle, cranefly, bee fly etc. Bats seem to appreciate it in the evening, god knows where the bats live.

Have you checked your attic?

Got loads of Goldfinches at the moment they love Sunflower seeds, so going to buy another anti Squirrel and large bird feeder, also a couple of Robins seem to have taken up residence, feed them and Blackbirds Mealworms
