Gareth Bale

Look nailed on to miss on top 4. He's a mover imo.

If we were in for Neymar who's likely to choose one of the Spanish two, then we must go for this lad.

Him, Cavani and Fernandinho. Anything else is a bonus but these are musts.

We cannot allow United to get him, Real Madrid fair enough but no not United.

I'd be very surprised with the figures being banded about for Cavani if we can add Bale onto that. Here's hoping though!

I reckon you're talking £100-120m for the three but those three come in and upgrade our first eleven. Midfield bolstered, left wing sorted. Clinical front man for the front of 4-3-3.

All makes sense. We sell Dzeko, Garcia and Kolarov and we get £40m and that means our net spend is £60-80m but that's tv money and balotelli.

We need top quality incomings, not tier 2-3 players. Bayern have walked Europe so far and they've just signed Gotze and are looking at Lewandowski, Suarez, Falcao and Cavani. We need to do the same or at least attempt to.

-- Thu May 09, 2013 12:30 pm --

It really depends how much we have learnt from last summer.

We only need 2 or 3 new faces, but if they are of the highest quality that will really freshen the squad up then that could really propel us to being a true force in Europe.

I just hope we have learnt from last summer in that 2nd/3rd choices and gambles aren't always good enough, especially in the short term.

I can't see us getting both Bale and Cavani. From Txikis apparent philosophy of:

1) blue chip performers
2)the best available
3)The most promising young players

I imagine both Bale and Cavani are classed as category 1- the best players in their position. I doubt we are looking at two of those, with the money they will cost. Not sure, I am only basing that upon the way we did business last year, and the fact we have clearly been looking to curb our spending.

Fernandinho, who looks pretty much done by all accounts might fit into category 2- don't know enough about him though.

I agree.

The thing this season is new tv deal money, balo sold, rsc-bridge-kolo-Johnson-others are off the wage bill. We have money to play with and we have more possible sponsor deals.

We have to go big this summer.

It looks easy on paper, but it must be much harder in reality.

Bale is an upgrade on Nasri and can inject the pace into this team which we are missing.
Cavani or Falcao as our number one target man to replace Dzeko, who's lack of pace/confidence is hindering his career in the Premier League
Fernandinho looks "nailed on" and is someone to partner Yaya or cover for him when he is out - just hope he isn't another Garcia (his form is very poor and he hasn't delivered anything like we expected when he came in last summer)

Anything else is a bonus.

I don't think we need Isco, but is he being looked at to back-up and stop us being so reliant on Silva ?
Will Hughes - possibly for the future, but if he is way above the level of those around him at Derby then maybe he would quickly improve and be good enough in the Premiership with our first team ?
Marquinhos - another young defender we're linked with, but would cost over ten million, good cover for Kompany, especially if we are in all four competitions after Christmas ?
I think if we bought the main three targets listed above we could sell, Tevez, Lescott, Sinclair, Garcia, Nasri & Dzeko. Is this possible ?

I can't see Neymar or Sanchez adding too much to this squad, Di Maria is better suited to the Prem, but if he blows hot and cold then why take the risk.

Just wish we had bought Bale last year, and Cavani this one, then we wouldn't have the expenditure to make now to overtake the likes of Chelsea and Utd. I also think Arsenal have to now improve and Liverpool will also sort out their squad where needed.

If Arsenal pip Spurs for fourth then I think Bale can be persuaded to leave.

There is a difference, though, between what we as fans think we need, and what we as a club will do.

The attraction of playing for City was much higher last summer- we had just won the league in incredible fashion, and whilst had stuttered in the Champions League, still had a decent points haul. That was a key time to strengthen, on the back of being Champions. And for some bizarre reason, we didn't take advantage of the position we were in.

Now, we have had a shocker in the Champions League, and haven't remotely challenged for the league. We are not as good a prospect as we were last season. Ferguson going, may work in our favour.

There clearly was a shift in how we are recruiting players, and who we look to buy. They key time to kick on would have been last summer, and we didn't. With that in mind I would be surprised if we got both Bale and Cavani. I'd be over the moon, but very surprised.

The thought of Silva slipping in Bale time after time........
Would work with Nasri too.

Something of a front four like...

Silva - Nasri - Bale

---Cavani/Aguero---

And there is still room for other players and/or formations as well. Or perhaps pick up Bale and Benteke instead of Cavani. Many possibilities. Hopefully it plays out for the best.

Single biggest compliment Benteke will ever be paid.

Notice I said "Bale and Benteke." In no way is Benteke in Cavani's class. No. Way.

But there are financial realities and we do have two world class strikers as is.

Think I'd take Cavani and a less fancied winger personally maybe Fischer or Lamela.
