Gareth Barry is City's Darren Fletcher, says Lou Macari

Hold on because we dont agree that a player is good it shows lack of footballing knowledge? If he is such a good player why has no other team sniffed around him? and dont say its because he wouldnt be sold because we all know thats not true.

Just because we dont all bow down at the feet of yourselves and say all your players are amazing does not show a lack of footballing knowledge it shows an objective opinion and in my opinion he is not a good player and any praise he deserves is purely because he plays for yourselves.

Case in point keiron richardson, plays for you answer to englands probs on the left, doesnt play for you cant even get in sunderlands team, just because they are protected and praised by sir alex does not make them good players, do you genuinely think if he was english he would even get close to englands midfield.

I never said he amazing, some said he was shit and he isn't.
Richardson was a really poor player with an even poorer attitude so no case in point.
If Fletcher would have gone 2 years ago I think he would have drifted back to scotland but hes pulled his socks up, worked hard and is now a damn fine player.
If he was english would he be in the squad, on current form (and thats what capello picks) he'd be in for carrick. He'd get a lot more praise if he was English.

Fair enough he brings energy and drive to a midfield but ssg2 and im not having a knock here do you think he would be half the player he is if he wasnt afforded the protection most of the top four players are?

Or do you think he would be more in the lee cattermole, michael brown route, making a decent living as a journeyman clogger but never a top player?

You could say that about any player though, you play with better players and become a better player. As for the protection, I just don't buy in to this conspiracy bollox, he tackales fair and hard, I don't think hes a dirty player as I don't think palacios is a dirty player or de jong, they are tough, hard working lads and the odd tackle goes astray.
He was always talked about being a great player since he was 15 (fergie wanted to play him at 15 but the league wouldn't let him), shortly after that he got a career threatening injury, hopefully now he is fulfilling his potential.

You rags make me laugh.
If he played for Hull you wouldn't give a toss. He's average at best-and he wouldn't get anywhere near our first 11,let alone England.
It's the usual "he plays for Man u so he deserves his international place."

Heard it and seen it all before.

File under "yet another Keane replacement" with the likes of Stewart.

You dont buy into it because your never on the end of it. What is so different from what ade did to vidic did to rodelega or what ronaldo did to the stoke player last year?

Fletcher is afforded protection purely based on the fact that any other ground in the premiership the challenge that he makes against arsenal is a penalty

At full speed it looked a great tackle, the slow mo replay cleared showed a penalty.
Same with the Adebayor incident, full speed it looks like nothing, the slow mo replay shows a clear foul

They both play the same role, but Fletcher is nowhere near the player Barry is. But thats because Barry is alot more experienced, Fletcher may be as good as him one day
