Gareth Barry

He played better down the left than in the middle. A solid game but after that match Mancini will have to make up his mind who out of Barry , De Jong and Yaya misses out as if we play those 3 in the middle together we lack a creative player at the cost of playing all 3. Maybe move Silva in the hole for 1 of the 3.

how can you possibly do that? you've got three free floating forwards all spending time in the hole already.

Don't judge this formation until we're up to speed. Yaya had the usual problems for a midfielder adjusting to the Prem, but still looked very smart and powerful player. If he sharpens up and starts charging forward more, and Kolarov uses the cover provided by Barry to get forward at every oppotunity, the NDJ, Barry, Toure, combination could win a lot of games.

back on topic;
I though GB was very classy today. De Jong was okay, a few horrible passes.

Let's assume Yaya improves, becomes sharper and fitter. I'd tend to move him to the anchor man role, and slot Milner in on the right. Barry tends to hold a little more, but that will give Kolarov every opportunity to get forward.

by mid season last year, barry was Captain potential. He looked strong, in control today and had great vision. But he is a big lad and he must be rested throughout the season as he just cannot carry game after game. Thank god for the new squad as there is now plenty of back up.
