Great player this season and a total change in level of performance. I think he is excelling because he has a significant amount of pressure from other players who could easily take his position, but none would do the job that Barry does as well as him. He brings balance and is calm under pressure. Really happy with him.

For some of us (probably a huge minority), CM/CDM is the most important position on the pitch, bar none.
If you don't have the ball, you can't dictate a game and give yourself a good chance of getting the three points.
De Jong's job is probably the toughest, yet simplest in theory (if that makes sense!) Win the ball and give it to AJ, Yaya, Barry, etc.
Barry does this to a lesser extent, but is also a pivot for the team. He is always available for a pass, ensuring possession.
He plays the ball simple and rarely gives it away. I would love to see his pass completion percentage, not just per game, but overall.
Nearly every manager he has worked under have said he is the first name on the teamsheet and Vieira recently lauded him as the "main man"...high praise indeed.
If you go to the game, you will be amazed at what he does (that's not a dig at those who don't, just that live, you see everything rather than what the TV wants you to see).
Still think Kompany should be in there though ;)

He has looked very good so far this season, I hope he keeps it going this year. He didn't just have a couple of bad matches last season imo, I thought he was poor for at least half the season.

Had a good game last night. He's done well this season. I've always liked him but he's become more noticeable of late due to his performances and I'm pleased for him and for us.
He'll be key to getting Milner adjusted and settled quickly too, the two of them seem quite close.

WOO hold your horses he started the exact same way last season at the club played well at the begining of the season and then it went belly up for him and he lost his form.
Yes I agree he has started well BUT IF it goes like last season I will wait before I say anything good or bad about Barry. We will see just how good he is when we really need the players to be strong going into the new year.

There is an old adage. "You're only as good as your last game". In fact there are a few clichés that could apply here.

its doing my head in now all this last season this season comparisons with barry!
there is not much difference at all in Barry's performances from last season till now ,his quality of football was and is still the same the only difference is his fitness levels he was flogged to death last season because there was nobody else but this season barring a ton more injury's he will be 100% most if not all games he plays because with have a good depth within the squad.
leighton you are very blinded when it comes to barry all ways have been and all ways will be no matter the situation or circumstance!
