For some of us (probably a huge minority), CM/CDM is the most important position on the pitch, bar none.
If you don't have the ball, you can't dictate a game and give yourself a good chance of getting the three points.
De Jong's job is probably the toughest, yet simplest in theory (if that makes sense!) Win the ball and give it to AJ, Yaya, Barry, etc.
Barry does this to a lesser extent, but is also a pivot for the team. He is always available for a pass, ensuring possession.
He plays the ball simple and rarely gives it away. I would love to see his pass completion percentage, not just per game, but overall.
Nearly every manager he has worked under have said he is the first name on the teamsheet and Vieira recently lauded him as the "main man"...high praise indeed.
If you go to the game, you will be amazed at what he does (that's not a dig at those who don't, just that live, you see everything rather than what the TV wants you to see).
Still think Kompany should be in there though ;)
