Gareth Barry

Whether you like or dislike him his work ethic can't be faulted. One of the few players that keeps going.
My main complaint against him is the fact he cannot use his right foot which means he constantly has to turn by which time all momentum is lost. Ant professional should be able to use both feet to a reasonable degree. He obviously doesn't practise enough. The other thing is his passing is woeful. Anything over 10 yards invariably goes astray.

Can anyone argue with the following statement?

Gareth Barry:

Has no pace
can not score goals
can not create goals
Is slow to turn
is ageing and is not likely to improve

You could say pretty much all of that about De Jong, whom a lot of people on here think is the best DM in the world. But I won't let that get in the way of a good slagging.

I think with De Jong although he's not 'pacey' he really can get in and amongst the opposition. He is dynamic and flexible whereas Barry is ageing and sluggish.

Some you clowns would have probably thought Gerry Gow was shit, if you'd have supported City that long enough to have heard of him.

the first 3 you state well obviously he aint in the side to do this game in game out is he!

ageing and not likely to improve hahaha well you could say that about 99% of players above 28!!!

Add to that list that he doesn't get in the face of the opposition and mix it like De jong does.

My statement regarding "ageing and not likely to improve" was perhaps a subconscious reference to Milner. I see him struggling with some parts of his game and performing a similar level to Barry. Yet he has one thing on his side; time. This is key as he can improve whereas Barry has reached his peak.

now there you do make a point not sure why milner has not done better imho,i thought he would really suit us!

The reason why Barry gets picked is Mancini tatics. Every single game he will play with a 3 of Yaya , De Jong and Barry because of his approach of the game not to be beaten. We have seen the games this season were we just sat in and defended with Tevez up front on his own. Thats his way of playing. Even at home we have played the 3 when fit and at times there is no need to play the 3 but it is Mancinis tatics of not getting beat that is making him play the 3. Barry will be in the Paddy V role next season if he is lucky but I wouldnt be bothered if we let him move on with Paddy V and go all out for a Schweinsteiger and get him to the club. While the likes of Barry is playing regularly at this club we will not get anywhere fast and to the goal of winning the title. We need more of a all action midfielders instead of Barry.
