Gareth Barry

Getting sick of the Barry criticisms now. He had a poor game, does this require a 9 page thread? He's been one of, if not our best player in the last few weeks, where were the 9 page threads then? Moaning bastards.

Tevez was worse than Barry today, but there's no thread on him I've noticed.

Barry has been one of our most consistently good players recently, he always puts 110%, not everything always comes off for him but he deserves some respect for the way he's been playing!

I also believe he's been one of our best players in all of our games recently.

Keep it up Barry!

I think he's an excellent player for sweeping up in the midfield and playing short simple passes to the attackers, but Nigel is also excellent, maybe better at doing that. I think we need someone that can do that but spray passes about the pitch as well, a 'deep-lying playmaker' for you footy managers out there. Xavi, Schweinsteiger, Xabi Alonso are the pros but look at Scholes, Charlie Adam and Huddlestone, they're all so effective for their team. Yaya does this sometimes but Bobby Manc insists on playing him higher up.

I think the eventual plan--maybe next year or year after--is for Milner to move into a spot beside Yaya with Yaya taking over for Barry and Milner being the one that pushes upfield centrally.

His poor passing yesterday could have been due to lack of movement off the ball.

not sure Mancini sees it this way. Milner, in the majority of occasions this season has been deployed as a wide-man.

To be honest, Vieira and Yaya Touré weren't exactly inspiring either.
Vieira had a good case for being MOTM yesterday.
I was focusing on our attacking play more than anything. Vieira played one or two good passes, but he and Yaya, along with Barry, never seemed to inspire anything. Like I said in another thread: it shows how important Silva is to our team. He was the only player that tried to spark some kind of creativity yesterday.

But my Man of the Match would have been Lescott.

Barry hasn't scored over 50 goals for the club or ever been anyway near to making the kind of impact that Tevez does.

I don't think the criticism is just from today. People are looking at it in the wider context and considering that when it comes down to it, Barry is not good enough to compete at the highest level.
