Gareth Barry.

We dont really have player who can tackle in the midfield. Part of the reason is Barry.

Barry is tackling about 1.8 times in average in a league game.
Yaya even less.
Nasri/Silva the same.

Haha..! You're saying Barry makes less than 2 tackles per game..? what a bunch of piss, where the fuck did you get that stat from..?

Unfortunately its true. Whoscored.com

Even Arteta who is playing lot deeper this year have lot better stats than Barry.
Cabaye as well and both payers are able to help the attacks scoring/setting up goals.

Dont look at the denefers stats theirs are of course better in tackling/interceptions/clearances stats. I checked only anther def. midfielders stats.

Barry is not really special in these stats. Not at least compared to Sandro, Arteta, Cabaye...

Arteta is tackling 3.7/game and 2.8 interception/game. Lot better stats than barry's.

Barry was probably never good in these things like tackling. Thats why we had De Jong many times. Or thats why NDJ had to play next to Barry many times.

The big problem is really the other midfielders in the team. I am not saying Nasri or Silva has to make tackles and getting interceptions all the time but I am sure they did these things more time last season.
This season our defence gets pretty small help and if you only get help from Barry that is not enough as Barry is not a typical well tackiling defensive enforcer. He is slow, cant really tackle well, he can use his body in close situations, and maybe keeps the ball well but playing him when tohe opponent attacks as down the wings with fast players and the player that drops deep is Rooney Barry cant have real effect in defending and in attacking he is hardly doing anything.

So after all from stats if they are right other team's defensive midfielders making more tackles, getting the ball back more times, clear situations more times and also help their team with forward play/forward skills as Cabaye is definitely a guy that helps attacks very well but he is not even def. midfielder because they used to have Tiote to play next to him. Cabaye is more like box-to-box maybe.

Mancini wanted to change the picture in midfield for good reasons (De Rossi, Martinez) but he is also responsible only Rodwell and Garcia was bought not just Marwood. The way Garcia tackles that is not the solution and Rodwell he hardly plays maybe in January we will see him more.

Silva actually can defend remember very well he made some very nice tackles last season. Sometimes he trackes back sometimes he doesnt.
Same with Yaya, Nasri.

Sometimes they think it is OK not to work hard for the team. That is unacceptable and there is no change in in since matches and it's Mancini's fault.

The way Yaya looks disinterested in corners well we conceded from those corners pretty important goals.
Also he leaves Barry far too alone a lot of times.

This is about discipline. How disciplined a player is.

It's either Mancini ask them to do these thing like help out, tracking back, and they dont give a shit.

Or Mancini doesnt ask them and is happy with the balance of the team in attackind/defending.

Dont know which situation is worse.

But if we look back last year especially in first few months when we were in top form I remember some great work from Nasri, Silva, Yaya not just in attacks but also they were helping out coming back with fullbacks etc.
That was probably the reasonof our fantastic form too not only the great from of our strikers.

We nee to play more as a team this season. The lack of discipline also costing us not just the bad form. Discipline is something you should have even in bad form too. At least that if nothing else.

The freekick in the end and Nasri's horrible touch is going back tp discipline as well.

true

I think his absence in the team at the begining of the year helped highlight Barry's importance to our midfield.

He knows where his team mates are, he's always scanning the pitch to analyse his options and he has the ability to find them. Quickly.

Looks to have dropped a bit of weight and looks sharper this year, also helped he had his surgery over the summer.

I do think we miss a more agile, tackling midfielder.... but i think a more pressing issue is an ability to exploit teams through pace and width, a real weakness of ours currently.
