Gareth Barry

barry has been on the decline for the past two season's, sure he look's good against lesser premiership opponents but against top teams who have more position press high and play at a higher tempo he has been found wanting, one year left on his contract on the decline and on high wages i just don't see any positives in keeping him.

the difference in the team's play when yaya and fernandinho are playing together as opposed to one of them an barry , rodwell or garcia is just unbelievable the hold team seems to play a quicker more fluent attractive football, the latter three just seem to lack the speed, technique, composure and confidence of the first two. rodwell is still young and has been showing signs of improvement since hes arrived but barry is only going to get worse an garcia was a mistake if we sell them both we should get enough money to buy a new midfielder who better suits the system.

Then that's who you play him against. It's a long season, hopefully around 60 games, and you need players who can come in and do a job. That's precisely how Barry should be seen.

Also, considering he's in his last year of his contract and 32 years of age, we'd surely only get £3M-ish for him. We can't replace him for that much, so we may as well use him wisely this season and let him go at the end of his contract.

I'd keep him its gna be a long season and we wil need experienced players at some point even in the cup games etc. still can do a job for city.

I never rated him since we signed him. I think he has done well to stay at the club so long. I think its best we sell him on. If we were to get some money with him in the last year of his contract then thats good business to get rid of his wages alone. I think the competition for places in the centre. Barry is behind a few now. Garcia I wouldnt be quick to write off yet. First season in a new league is always hard. I expect to see a better Garcia this season. He wont be happy to stay in the backround. For me he is behind Milner , Garcia , Rodwell and Yaya and Fernandinho look for me to be the midfield backbone this season with Milner , Rodwell and Garcia slotting into a 3 from time to time.

Its just for me others offer more than Barry. Passing for me has always been iffy. Never been the quickest and at times if your passing lets you down it shows badly just how bad a player he is up against the European teams hes a liability.

Disagree. Of course, Fernandinho and Yaya are, rightly, odds on to be first choice, and are the best footballers - some of the football we played last night in the second half was excellent. But Barry still has an important role to play. And to suggest he's only looked good against lesser opposition seems a bit daft - at the back end of last season he was arguably best player on the pitch at the swamp and in the semi against Chelsea. To be honest, I'm amazed that just a few months later, so many are convinced he's past it and should be shipped.

I always thought Barry links up play really well without grabbing the headlines with goals and assists. He also was good at breaking up the opposition's game and regaining possession. It meant that his contribution was not always noticed but I accept that this contribution is lessening and if he does not accept a new contract that reflects that we should sell him while he is worth a good fee.

I think Gareth will be be an invaluable member of the team in tough away games, both in PL and CL, when we will play Ya Ya and Fernandinho as well. We know Gareth isn't fast - he never has been - but we ought not to ignore the excellent qualities he still has and our new players will enable us to use these while compensating for his deficiencies.
