You understand that this is a thread in an internet forum dont you? One designed entirely for City fans?

You understand that just because you're on the internet you don't have to act the **** all the time don't you?

Pretty piss poor that, to each their own though.

Bollocks is it, I fucking hate these threads.

Did you lot know the lad? Are you going to wake up in sweats next month crying that he no longer exists?

A quasi celebrity is dead. Writing RIP wont bring him back, wont bring comfort to anyone and is a piss poor way of showing respect. Its the laziest way possible, write a quick, entirely insincere comment then carry on with your day.

If you actually care,go and find out his charity of choice and make a donation in his name, which would be a fitting way to honour his memory; posting RIP in a thread in a City internet forum is meaningless lazy drivel.

This kind of pseudo mourning is a fucking joke. You aren't even bothering to share memories of him, just writing RIP then carrying along on your merry way. If I was part of his family, this type of insincere bullshit would piss me off more than comfort me.

Yet you took the time to post a few comments on the thread itself.
This is the General forum too by the way, i.e. non-City.
Also, writing RIP about someone passing is a way of showing respect. When Speed passed on I wrote RIP on that thread, despite disagreeing with what he had done to his family. When a Blue passes away and its put on the MAIN forum, I pass my RIP comments on those too, out of respect.

Jesus!
Let's hope no-one turns up to his funeral either. Insincere mourners!

RIP Gary.

And do you know all the City fans who have passed away, but I bet you`ve been hypocritical and left an RIP for them.
If you don`t like it,then don`t fucking respond you simple Mod !!

I can see what Damocles is saying. Sometimes there is a knee-jerk reaction on here when someone of note dies and there's a bit of silliness with all the insincere tributes. But we either ignore the thread or contribute something by way of tribute.

He was a decent player and to die at that age is sad, whichever way you put it.

Personally I'm quite indifferent as I didn't know the man, I'm only aware of him because he was a player in the game I love.

He leaves behind him friends and family who loved the man, and for that I'm sorry.

I don't think Damocles is entirely without point when he says these threads may be viewed as insincere, but what I do find myself annoyed with was the fact he thinks this is a good place to take the piss when Ablett is barely cold.

I thought moderators were supposed to be more measured with what they said, but clearly this particular one struggles to put his brain in gear before engaging his mouth.

I`m suprised he`s not tried to pull the thread !!

The rush to write RIP on threads about people that are strangers is mawkish and meaningless imo.

A bit like tthe modern phenomenon of turning a place where someone dies, especially in a car crash, into some sort of tacky, throwaway shrine to that person. Full of tacky and meaningless 'messages' that give the impression of being more for the benefit of public consumption than between the person sending the message and the person who has passed away. The same goes for nonsense like tribute Facebook pages.

I avoid writing anything on these threads usually as stating so is always going to wind people up because a lot of people see showing such 'respect' (in their view) as one of the most noble aspects of their personality.

As for Damocles comment, well, the problem I have with it is that it relies on a tired stereotype and is a bit too 'dickhead in the pub' for my comedy taste. I doubt Gary Ablett's family give a stuff though.

(Funnily enough, I bet that a lot of the most prolific RIPers love buying into the whole 'Scousers love mourning' cliche in normal circumstances.)

Completely not needed comments. Very crash humour that should stick to your local tap room.

Back on topic R.I.P Gary. Taken far too young.

FFS Damocles, as a mod you should have more grace than that.
Gary Ablett, same age as me. RIP.
